“Five wonderful days at a great place”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

My husband and I stayed five days at the Hydrangea Inn this September 2013. I had found the place because of the good ratings at tripadvisor and I must say, we were not disappointed! It's a great place. Renee, the inn keeper is very kind, very welcoming and her breakfasts are amazing. She accommodated my husband's needs of gluten free food and cooked special breakfasts for him. We stayed in the Redwood Bungalow and we loved it there. The proximity to the wonderful Trinidad beach on the north end and the Redwood Forests on the south end makes Eureka an ideal place to be. If you go there over the weekend, don't miss the amazing Farmer's Market in Arcata. They have awesome musicians there and we spend several hours enjoying ourself. Close to the Farmer's Market you find a great Cafe, Cafe Brio. The Brio Bread Company which is local in Arcata makes amazing bread and the Cafe serves Blue Bottle Coffee. Enjoy! We surely want to come back.

We planned to stay at another property. As the owner got ill we were transfered to the Hydrangea Inn. We were well received by the owner and the appartment (upstairs) was perfect for our 2 night stay in Eureka. Nice breakfast in the morning (as Europeans we have to adapt ourselves a little bit to the differences between US and Dutch breakfast). The owner directed us to a good restaurant in town. The only remarks we could have is the pricing which was one of the highest during our trip in the US and the road at the front side of the house can be quite busy so you might wake up early.

My partner and I decided at the last minute to take a trip to Eureka and visit the North Coast. I called some of the high rated B&B, two of them had disconnected numbers. Another one was all booked up, another one was two pricy, and another to far from Eureka. I stumbled upon the Hydrangea Inn and liked what I saw, and the price seemed reasonable as well, so booked it. Renee confirmed our reservation immediately and also sent me a note about road conditions on 299, in case we were going that way. We were running a bit late, texted her, and she replied immediately. We arrived and she immediately made us feel welcome and at home. She gave us some amazing chocolates. The suite of rooms were WAY better than we expected, we wish we could have stayed longer! Renee obviously takes pride in her family home and its contents, most of which have been in her family for generations. I was impressed that they were not your run of the mill B&B items bought to fill up rooms, but all had some meaning or history. Love it! Renee is "the hostess with the mostest" This was such a great find and a great experience all around, we will definitely come back if we go back, but will book sooner since I know her reputation will only grow. We recommend this B&B 100%

Renee is wonderful! We arrived after 65 miles of biking, hot, tired and thirsty. We were greeted with lemonade, a place for our bikes and incredible hospitality. Renee gave us directions around town, amazing breakfast, even lent us her own mug for a visit to the Lost Coast brewery. Plus the house has an incredible history to it.

My friends and I were referred to Hydrangea Inn by another B&B that unexpectedly closed due to illness of the owner. What a great surprise! The perfectly restored 1930's bungalow is ideal for up to 3 couples travelling together. My wife and I had the entire upstairs floor and our friends had the suite in the remodeled guest house out back. The inn is not like any B&B we've ever stayed in. It's much more like staying in a friend's roomy guest house. The suites and the furniture were perfectly restored and fresh. The small kitchens in both suites were very adequate for travelers. The breakfasts were unique: at the agreed time Renee, the owner, delivered a large basket of a fresh hot breakfast, fresh fruit, juice, yogurt and bread to the hallway. All we had to do was open the door and bring it in the room. It was still so warm that we had to let it cool while we ate the fruit and yogurt. Perfectly private and luxurious! Renee is very warm and open to describe the history of the house, the neighborhood and the town. She recommended some great restaurants and activities in town. After years of staying at B&B's all over the world this was the best experience we have had.

We arrived in Eureka after a long day of hiking to discover that our reserved B&B hostess had had an emergency and had to close the inn. (They had been trying to get hold of us but we were out of touch - the best kind of vacation). However, they had booked us at a brand new B&B called the Hydrangea Inn which turned out to be wonderful. It's a beautiful house built in the 30s with incredible craftsmanship. Our lodging was in a lovely, private bungalow behind the house. We had a bedroom, living/ding room and full kitchen - all beautifully appointed. Renee, our hostess, might be new to B&B but she's already a pro. She greeted us with lots of information about the area - including a dining guide and some history on the wonderful house which was built by her great grandmother. She provide us with a press pot, fresh ground coffee, and orange juice to get our morning started. Then the next morning, she brought breakfast to our room in a basket - a wonderful hearty and flavorful breakfast of eggs with ham, polenta, homemade sausage, fresh fruit and greek yogurt. As a extra benefit, the neighborhood where the house is located is full of beautiful historic homes and is just down the street from Brick and Fire - a great local restaurant.

Room Tip: We were in the bungalow which is lovely and private and about 400 square feet. We heard from the ot...
