“Nice for a quick lesson in local history.”

Fort Humboldt State Historic Park
Ranked #10 of 45 things to do in Eureka
Attraction details
Reviewed August 2, 2011

This is a combined logging museum and former US Army fort. The logging museum side was many artifacts from the old logging days in northern California. Many of the steam engines are still in working order and are operated a few times during the summer months. These include 2 locomotives.
The fort side has only 2 buildings. Only one of these, the old hospital, is original the to the fort. It did contain a museum about local Native Americans and information on the fort, but it was damaged during any earthwquake in January of 2009 and does not appear that it will be open any time soon.
The other is a reconstruction of the surgeons house. It has peroid furnishings, but since there is no entry, one can only look through the windows.
