This hotel looked interesting being on the National Historical Register and given its past of hosting celebrities. The lobby Is all wood made from one tree they claim. The place is old and tired, our room was clean and comfortable and it appears they tried updates which did little to improve. In the morning there was no hot water and we asked for a discount because of it and they offered only a token amount. The Inn may have had some glory days but those appear to be long gone, I would not stay here and recommend you look elsewhere as well. We saw some really neat places in nearby Ferndale CA, a charming little town we loved, I would stay there the next time.

Room Tip: Back of hotel is best, upper floor.

This was not a complete disaster. To be fair, the room was updated, clean and comfortable, Plus, I had consulted with a friend who had stayed in the Eureka Inn 15+ years ago and was excited for our prospects. That said, there is very little else to recommend a stay in this iconic hotel.
We selected this hotel because it had a restaurant and cocktail lounge on premise figuring we could have dinner and a late night cocktail before turning in. Please note; the restaurant was not open and the cocktail lounge was a complete disaster. After witnessing an abominable 'comedy' performance at the lounge, we left trying to locate a local bar, but were unsuccessful. We decided to return and spend some time by the lovely fireplace in the main great room. Unfortunately , it was occupied by a large group of 'guests' eating pizza and drinking beer at the fireplace. Again, reminiscent of my Hostel days, but hardly in keeping with an iconic historic hotel. The 'free' breakfast was more of the same. They ran out of most of the attractive items on their limited menu, and there was a large plate of hard boiled eggs. However, for the ten or so tables in the dining area, there was ONE set of salt and pepper shakers. No individual salt and pepper options. Plus, my wife and I agreed that the coffee that was produced was perhaps the foulest tasting brew in memory. There is allegedly free WIFI, and they apparently had repeaters on the 2nd and 4th floor,. Unfortunately, we were placed on the 3rd floor and never had a satisfactory Internet connection except when we went to the lobby and negotiated around the guys eating pizza at the lobby fireplace.
Disappointed? Absolutely! There is clearly an effort to bring the hotel back to its previous 'iconic' status. But ignoring the abominable content at the lounge in the heart of the hotel is hardly the way of building confidence in bringing this hotel back to its former glory.
Stay away! Definitely not worth the aggravation.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the 3rd floor. - No Internet

The lobby and hallways were a bit run down, and smelled musty. The desk clerk was young, slow and not terrific in customer service. However, our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The king bed was fine, with a down comforter. The shower was upgraded and modern, with great hot water and water pressure. There was no air conditioning, but the weather in Eureka is usually cool, so you can just open the large windows to get some fresh air. The only problem there was the noise from traffic.. it sounded like they were drag racing downtown. The wifi barely worked. That said, it was a "historic inn", very large, with lots of cool old photos on the walls.

So 23 Canadians on a motorcycle tour from Vancouver to Napa decide to stay at a haunted hotel in Eureka...no ghostly visitations to report, but we all enjoyed our evening listening to a great band, the staff was friendly and the rooms were quirky and comfortable. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: It looked like each room was different...quirky, charming hotel.

I used to stay at this historic inn monthly while on business. The pool area was beautiful. While the leather furniture in lobby next to huge fireplace was old, it fit the inn.I was stunned at the new owner's lack of historic integrity. CHEEZY, horrible artifical flowers w/ glitter arranged through out the inn. a water featureoutside back door that has nothing to do with anything. and apparently when the manager isn't there, no one else is empowered to make decisions.POOR customer service.not trained. The inn is now a place tour buses likely stop on their way through.SAD..........overpriced room rates. restaurant not open.

Room Tip: business rate rooms clear at back and small. bathroom very small.
