Villa Telika is a lovely Villa in a peaceful location. The views from around the pool and the balconies are gorgeous. The Villa is well equipped and very comfortable and spacious. Supermarket and bakery are close with several excellent Tavernas within a short drive and one a short walk. the beach is a very corse grey sand but still ticks the boxes with a couple of nice beach bars. Well worth taking the drive along the bay the Haraki, a quaint little village hugging a almost circular bay where there are some excellent fish restaurants. If you go to Lindos go early to stand a chance of parking, worth the trip though. One thing t note is a hire car is necessary to fully enjoy the location and access to the rest of Rhodes.
Villa Telika is located in the small residential village of Kalathos which is approximately 5km north of Lindos in southern Rhodes.
The location is perfect as it provides peace and quiet to recharge the batteries but also has good links to local amenities. I would recommend car hire to explore the island but it is not essential as there are good bus links into Lindos and beyond. The villa has several small bars/cafes for drinks/snacks within walking distance, however, the nearest taverna is approximately 15 minutes walk away.
The villa itself is well equipped with all mod cons and sleeps 4 easily and 5 at a stretch. We are a family of 5 and found it was comfortable for our needs as we spent all our time enjoying the pool / patio areas. The pool is fantastic with views out to the sea in the distance. The garden is positioned within an olive grove which produces a wonderful aroma. Also there are donkeys and peacocks roaming which provides a lovely backdrop of sound.
If your idea of a wonderful holiday is peace and quiet within a relaxing environment then this is the ideal villa. The owner, Steve V, has responded to all queries immediately and he is supported by efficient staff, particularly the pool cleaner, whom attended on a Sunday when we queried the water becoming cloudy. He rectified the issue immediately and continued to check in with us to ensure it had not returned. He was also an excellent source of local knowledge.
The villa is exactly as described, nestled on the hillside over Kalathos next to an orchard on one side and a prickly pear collection at the bottom. The pool is lovely, and the outside space very usable with views over the sea to the East and inland to the West. We spent most of our time at the villa sitting outside (it gets properly warm in Rhodes – who knew?). The aircon was very effective in the two bedrooms and made sleeping much easier. The villa was clean, the beds comfortable, and the kitchen usable.
The local beach is pebbly, but not crowded even in August. I read reviews of the beach which made it sound like you’d be over the Marianas Trench if you took two steps into the water…in reality it is fine. We had an adult non-swimmer in the party and he was absolutely fine and safe in the water. The sea was warm and the beach lovely. There are a couple of bars if that’s your thing, or plenty of open space if not. Note that we did not try to walk to the beach from the villa – it was too hot and only a short drive.
You cannot park right next to the to the villa – it is a short walk (20 meters?) down a path from the parking to the villa.
There are a number of tavernas in town. Again, we drove to the ones we liked which were slightly further away, but there was choice. The bakers, pharmacy, bars, and fruit/veg stall are all within easy walking distance. Kalathos itself is pretty quiet. The main road down the coast runs through the town but this is not a problem for the villa at all. We drove to the supermarket which was well stocked and useful.
Kalathos itself is away from the hustle and bustle of NE Rhodes. It was nice to see the more crowded up areas dropping away as we drove South from the airport, and the wide open vistas as you near the town. It’s quieter than the towns further North with more space. It is close to Lindos, which (although touristy) is a pretty town. We really enjoyed the drive across the middle of the island and exploring the West coast as well. So I’d suggest hiring a car and exploring all over the island, including Rhodes old town.
Steve himself (the owner) was really helpful and responsive. He was able to offer advice and suggestions, and was really efficient in all my dealings with him. He communicates regularly and well, and was reliable – you could not ask for a better person to deal with when hiring a villa. He has a team onsite on the island who were efficient in all our dealings with them.
If you are going to Rhodes, don’t want to be in the highly touristy areas, but do want a good quality villa in a central location near the sea, then I would consider this a good choice.
The apartment was great, clean, spacious and all you would want, a lovely pool and outlook. The service was really good, directions and instructions we clear, we were met and introduced to the apartment, when we had a problem it was dealt with immediately. The boys really enjoyed the pool which was cleaned regularly.
It was located near a supermarket, but the bakery down the road was ideal for breakfast on the patio, well worth a visit. A car is essential, hire was cheap and driving easy at this time of year.
The only suggestion I would make is to provide some softer pillows for those of us who have sensitive heads.
All in all I would recommend this strongly, so long as you hire a car
