“I know of no reason to eat here”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Over the last decade this once better than average Mexican restaurant has sunk to being one of the worst. Last night's dinner was really awful. One wonders how, with infinite competition, this place stays in business. Must be a few left who remember the old days. There is fine Mexican cooking and then there is the kind of routine trash they slung at us. I complained that the beef in my dish was as dry as sawdust and the waitress just smiled (and definitely not a language barrier). There is absolutely no reason to ever eat here. Not a mole or chili recipe on the menu. Guess no one in the kitchen knows how to cook a real meal.

“Worst Mexican Food on the Planet”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

The place is cool, old and funky on Lake Hodges, but the ambiance is the ONLY redeeming quality Hernandez possesses. The food was the worst Mexican food on the planet, greasy, tepid and took over 30 mins. to be served. The margaritas are over priced 6.5 per glass or 26.0 for a pitcher and mostly ice. But the worst part is the servers and bartenders who all act as though they hate their jobs. They don't make you feel welcomed as much as "tolerated" If you like service with a snarl, then Hernandez Hideaway is the place to go.

“Yummy! And very friendly service!”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

So glad I was visiting with a local resident because I would not have found this on my own! Good Mexican food (I had the green chile with pork bits) and friendly service. Was surprised it was that busy on a Thursday night, but I understand why now. Good food, relaxed atmosphere. Legend has it that they invented the Margarita. I don't know if that's true...but I know at home they are not this strong! If you like good Mexican food and a Margarita with a kick, this may be the place for you.

“Hidden Away”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Fun place to dine and eat. While nothing spectacular in the food department it is very edible and it is a great experience, if you can find it.

“Good Mexican Food”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Nice location near a lake and good quality Mexican food. For some of our friends, this is their favorite. Not our favorite but quite good.
