“Wish business here was better!”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

I loooove Grand Ave in downtown Escondido. It's an old-fashioned downtown that has the potential for a really, really cool atmosphere and could offer the residents of Escondido a wealth of entertainment, shopping and dining choices, but, sigh......it looks like the City of Escondido isn't very interested in this. The businesses that are there like the French Bakery, The Loft, some art galleries and restaurants and a coffee house are great. They defintely hold this downtown area together, but there are so many opportunities for additional retail businesses it blows my mind. I will keep giving my business to Grand Ave because I love it and I want it to prosper. But the City of Escondido has to get its act together and start attracting business to the area if it wants to survive.

“Nice Farmers' Market”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

Really nice farmers' market on Tuesday afternoons. Many restaurants along this street from casual to fine. Some shops. Unfortunately, several shops have closed leaving a number of open spaces. Public art along the way and nice municipal gallery.

“Eclectic mix of businesses”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Grand Avenue is like coming home to a time past. It is the site of the Escondido Farmers' Market on Tuesday afternoons, where the vegetables and fruits are abundant, as well as flowers and food specialties like kabobs. There is a large fabric store - not a chain version, a long, narrow barber shop (Andy's) with a parrot out front, a modern kitchen and bath design store, a vacuum and sewing machine store on the corner, the family pizza restaurant, an Irish pub, a wine bar, and many more. Our favorites, though, are two of the dining venues, which happen to be almost directly across the street from each other. Vincent's Restaurant is a very special, elegant place that is so narrow you can almost miss it when walking past. It is the site of our special dinners while in the area. The other, A Delight of France, also known as the French Bakery and Bistro, is our favorite lunch or brunch spot. It is now under new ownership, and we see a great improvement in the service and upkeep of the tables. The food is exceptional - and then there are the pastries and deadly, large almond croissants! The street is a good place to stroll.
