For $46 you get admission into the park and a ride on the Africa Tram. The Africa Tram takes you along the African outpost where you will get a far view of whatever animals that are not in hiding at the time. The animals are in their "natural environment" and allowed to roam freely. This means that you may not get to see some of the animals. You don't get an up close of view of the animals so if that is important to you, you should invest in one of the cart safaris. While I was there, one of the cart safaris got to pet the giraffes. Awesome!! Went on the balloon safari which costed about $20 per person. It would've been so much cooler if the balloon took you riding over the park, but it's tied down so you stay in one place. The view was nice, but not much different than the one you see from the viewing points. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking and you will be in the sun at least 95% of the time.

This park was the highlight of our weeklong family trip to San Diego. It felt "out there" - quite authentic, a ridiculous amount of animals, and some hands-on experience. If you have one day, go here instead of the Zoo (assuming you can make the hour-plus trip out there).

My husband and I decided to go to the Safari Park. Expensive for basic entry fee. Way more expensive if you decided to add on to the general experience. Hard to imagine taking a family with a few kids. Of course quite the experience if you purchase a ticket to go into the safari enclosures to fee giraffe's etc on the bus. We did add on the Asian trolley tour. I counted 19 elephants in their own enclosure, a few babies too. Really great to see up close. Lots of walking and animals to see. Quite unique to look up the valley and see rhino's, giraffes, and all kinds of animals just grazing or sleeping.

You can take in your own food which is nice. We stopped at Rancho Bernardo and stopped at a lovely little grocery store just off the freeway and grabbed a couple fresh made sandwiches to pack in with us. We did stay for the cheetah run, quite a long wait by the time everyone lined up it was about 45 minutes of waiting. Couple of pushy people came at the last minute and shoved their kids through to the front, very ignorant of them. One kid nearly pushed over a grandmother by accident because he was trying to get in front. The cheetah run was great but over in a flash. By that point we were done and ready to go home. Pretty good experience but as I said quite pricey.

Very nice addition/alternative to the downtown zoo. As the name indicates, there are only animals associated with Asia and Africa. Very nice play areas throughout the park for children. Pack a lunch as food is expensive to purchase. The one downside is the $5 parking fee charged which I do not think is necessary as the admission price is expensive enough. There is a bit of nickel and diming on extras but no need to spend more as the basic price allows you to enjoy the features of the park. A very present day for everyone for all ages.

At the Safari Park in Escondido Ca., there is a cheetah Run tour. Its well worth it to go to the tour which is extra not with the paid admission and you can make advanced reservations for it. You get up pretty close to the Cheetah with his dog partner and the keeper that talks about the Cheetah and the run and any questions you might have. There is photos taken and you can buy the photos later at the park of you and your family with the Cheetah if you want it is not included with the Cheetah run but is extra but the photos are very good and ones you will not get by taking them yourself. They give you a bottle of water and it can get hot in the sun so bring a sun hat or visor against the glare of the sun. The run itself is very good but of course fast. Cheetahs run very fast and your camera might not get the pics. Do watch it for if you have your face to a camera to take pics you cannot get the hold impressive run of the cheetah. You can watch free from above the run but you do not get the keeper talk or the close view of the cheetah just feet from you. Also a video of the Cheetah came out very good on our cell phone and got the whole thing where pics never caught the whole run its so fast.
