Its like a zoo, but more. Its even nicer if you enjoy a nice hike looking at different plants etc.The included Safari tram to Africa is a must and if you can afford it i would take one of the other safaris, we went to one in Asia as you cant see this if you just walked around. it would have even been nicer if we would have taken the safari that takes you up close and personal to the animals, but this is our first time so we were not sure. You can see it in a day, but it will be a long one. We only got a chance to see one show since they are all over the place at different times. You can do some serious walking here as well, but not as bad as the zoo. We are glad we did not miss it.

What an AMAZING experience! It is the best zoo we have ever been too. The Los Angeles Zoo and the Honolulu Zoo pale in comparison. We visited on New Year's Day. The weather was about 77 degrees - perfect for a stroll around the zoo. The walking path was well kept and maintained. The exhibits was so easy to find and beautiful. The safari tram ride was about 30 minutes long and very relaxing. The tour was absolutely gorgeous. The animals were so comfortable in their surroundings. It was a beautiful experience. The food was actually reasonable priced for a theme park / zoo. The eating areas were very serene with gorgeous views. I would purchase a family membership if we lived in San Diego. We shall return for sure!

A honest and heart felt approach to displaying endangered and important wildlife from around the world in a respectful and fun way. A little too much commercialism up front but when you realize that it supports a responsible non-profit it ok. Great for young and old alike. Plan on a long wait for the tram put worth it. If I lived nearby, I would definitely join.

This is easily the one of the best zoos in the states (if not the world).

We visited this zoo on Jan 6th (Mon) so there was no crowds and the weather was perfect (mid 70s).

The entrance fee is $49 and they have a whole bunch of "safaris" where you pay extra to do things (examples include a overnight stay, caravan safari, cart safari, hot air balloon, etc). There is also a $10 parking fee. This zoo is non-profit so everything they make goes to a good cause!

I would recommend you book ahead if you want to do a safari (when I went they were full so I couldn't do a caravan safari). They have the "Africa Tram" which I would highly recommend. I actually didn't think I needed the caravan safari after doing it but caravan does give you the opportunity to feed the animals.

You can bring food and drinks into park. The food is spendy but ok to eat. Also, this is a big zoo so if you have little ones you will need a stroller.

This was easily the top thing I did in San Diego next to surfing. We also did gaslamp, USS Midway but they didn't come close.

Do yourself a favor and do this activity!

Our family really enjoyed our visit, although the mapping of the area could be better as it was very confusing and a lot of back tracking. Also felt the closed exhibits should be noted at the gates so we didn't spend 30 minutes trying to find the gorilla exhibit only to find out it was closed.
