“Safari is a bus ride around cages, not with the animals”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Walking around was great. There is a lot to see. Loved the lions and gorillas. You can get really close. We went in the morning in November. The animals were very active. Lions roared and dated. Gorilla's played with their baby and laid out a towel to sit on. California Condors exhibit was good too.

The tram safari was a bit of a disappointment. It isn't really driving through where the animals are. You follow a cement road that has enclosures around it that you look into. Not what I thought we were going to do.

There are other optional safaris that are more expensive. Maybe they are better than the tram but they still go through the same areas.

We had a good time. You will too as long you know what to expect.

“BEST CLOSE-UP VIEW of BIG Worldwide Wild Animals you'll find in USA - AMAZING.”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

The quality and quantity of the largest mammals from all over the world are absolutely amazing, and the park is a great field trip for adults and kids. If you're up for serious splurging, the Photo Safari (whether or not u take pictures) gets you VERY close up to many animals, but you need to book in advance or may be sold out. And if you want, you can feed rhinos and giraffes, by hand: safe and exciting. (Great for pix, too.) Lion enclosure gets you inches from these gorgeous creatures while keeping the lions happy too. And DO take the tram tour, even if the line is long; it goes quickly. Do allow yourself a whole day to do this justice; it will reward you with memories for many years. I've been several times and it always feels fresh and special, and is a totally different experience from the city Zoo. Great gift shop, too.
Note: This park of the park is NOT near the regular Zoo; it's about an hour's drive from San Diego, through lovely desert country. But don't try to do both in same day.

“3rd Trip!”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

This was our 3rd trip in about 12 years, Many changes; some good and some not so good. There seemed to be less animals and the tram ride did not get us close enough. There were other options to see more and get closer, but they were pricey! The lions and elephants are a must see in our book!

“Great outdoor experience”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Large wild animal park. Set in a beautiful area of the foothills. Nice combination of walk by exhibits and the large open savanna type views. Took the tram around the large open areas (zebra, rhinos, giraffe, etc). Informative narrative. We also did the challenging "obstacle course" in the trees. Pricey, but definitely worth the fun and unique experience. We spent almost 5 hours there and still didn't see it all. Recommend an off day (we went on a Monday--not at all crowded). Check out the website in advance to plan any of the "safaris."

“Great Day”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Spent all day at the Safari Park. Really enjoyable day out. Staff were very informative about the breeding programme and the attention to detail to ensure the health and well being of the animals there. Took the bus trip around and really enjoyed the explanations given and details of all the animals in the area.
Nice places to sit and admire the whole park. Watched a Giraffe being fed, that was fun as it got quite worried with people around.
Would highly recommend this place.
Unfortunately the food outlets were rather poor.
