“Rooms are not clean to stay”
Reviewed August 11, 2010

The location of the hotel is very good. But rooms are not clean. We found hair and stain in the bed sheet, pillow cover and towel. We told them to change it and the one we got are evens worse. Carpets are really dirty and filthy. So, over all I will not recommend this hotel.

We were given the Ocean Inn as a recomendation from friends. Vikesh and Kirti were great hosts and owners. They lent us a kettle when they realized we were big tea drinkers and provided us with lots of detailed information about the local area. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable and having a refrigerator was handy. We were welcome to go into the breakfast area as needed to get coffee or hot water whenever we wanted and every morning there was toast, cereal, danish's etc to help us get the day started. A walk behind the hotel took you into the local neighbourhood and paths to the beach. The rates were very reasonable, we'll be back as we loved the laid back easy feel of Encinitas and the lovely Ocean Inn with Vikesh and Kirti.

The Ocean Inn was a nice place! The rooms are a little dark due to building design, but it was quiet, very clean and comfortable. It's a no-frills place, but who wants to sit in a motel room in this area anyway? If you don't have plans to sit around all day in your room and just want a safe, clean, quiet place to lay your head, this is it.

Pro tip: Ask for an upstairs room. The bottom row seems as if it could be noisy with parking and people.

Things to note: Trains don't bother me, and if you know anything about this area, there's a set of commuter train tracks right across 101. If trains bother you, look elsewhere. I love trains, and they whiz by so quick, they never woke me up once. Also, the continental breakfast is extremely limited. Use it as a quick sugar rush to head up the street to Encinitas for a proper breakfast (The Original 101 Cafe being great...). Not really a good kids joint. I don't have kids, but there just isn't anything there. No pool, no playground, no puppets, no candy vendors, iPhone salesmen or whatever kids are into these days.

Though it doesn't have direct beach access, the athletic and adventurous can walk through a perfectly charming neighborhood to a lovely place to access the beach. We did so many times and enjoyed it each time.

The neighborhood is very cool. There's rows of shops and food places pretty much up and down 101, and we had a great time exploring the local fare.

If anything, the staff at the Ocean Inn made all the difference. The people who work there from the housekeeping to the desk staff and owners are all extremely laid back, friendly and no stress. It felt more like I was staying with someone's family than just at an inn.

We stayed 8 days because of wedding festivities in the area. The managers were so very friendly and interested in us and our welfare. The room was a simple, usual room but very clean. The building was very attractive and the trumpet vines were all in bloom. It was so close to eating places, shopping, I-5, and the beaches. Overall the cost made it affordable for our long stay and it was an extremely pleasant experience. The Quail Botanical Gardens and the Self Realization Gardens are very close.

Vik Ganatra is a lovely man and good host. The Ocean Inn still has the charm of yesteryear - lovely smelling gum trees, surfers up the hill heading down the trail to the beach, fish tacos and lively small grocery stores nearby, the half way house guys playing cards nearby, the great breakfast places and quirky shops, good surf gear and shirts and short trip to town down the hill. This is what California used to be like and what I hope stays for a few more years.

Just spent three days at the Ocean Inn. Quiet, clean, friendly. A marked difference from staying at the usual chains in the area. First off, the location is ideal if you prefer funky, interesting neighborhoods to malls. One of S. Cal's greatest coffee shops is a mile south and lots of cafes and shops line the road. A lovely 5-min walk to a super beach just S of Ponto. Really quite idyllic.

The staff was helpful and forthcoming and the rooms were very clean and everything worked well. Even the free internet impressed - genuinely high-speed cable, not the creakingly slow speeds I've experienced at the big chains.

During our stay last weekend, quiet nights and restful atmosphere. Definitely not a party spot - more family friendly. And the price was excellent.
