We stopped by the Carlsbad Village Swami's in hopes of having breakfast there. The less than friendly hostess asked a passing waitress if they had gluten free options (bread, pancakes, etc.) and she snapped "no". Really? Seemingly less healthy options such as St. Germain's in Encinitas offer gluten free pancakes. Have been to the Encinitas location over the years many times, and now with a son with food allergies hoped Swami's would be accomodating. They could keep a frozen loaf of bread in their fridge and offer toast, pretty easy solution. Lame.

Swami's used to be a pleasant place for a slow casual breakfast with friends. However, it has lately become a hate club, with scurrilous political posters impossible to ignore. The owner is welcome to his/her views. I am welcome to take my breakfast business to another of the great nearby cafes, such as Potato Shack, 101 Cafe, or the venerable Encinitas Diner.

While the menu does look above average, the food does not taste that way. The curry isn't anything to rave about and their side salad is kind of a throwaway. Best not to serve a side salad at all if your just going to throw some giant chunks of cucumber and tomato in some lettuce with some bland dressing.
The service was slow but the staff seamed pleasant enough. I liked the vibe though and you can walk across the street afterwards and stroll in the self-realization gardens.
I'd give this place a second chance to try a different item.

EVERYTHING coming out of the kitchen here look fresh and delicious. I ate lunch/brunch there three days in a row. Breakfast all day. Lots of healthy food and smoothie choices. Patio is dog friendly. Staff very friendly.

We had breakfast at Swami's and the food was very good. The restaurant is self-service which was a little confusing at first. The omletes, pancakes and fruit were all delicious and we would go back again!
