Owner description: Explore four miles of garden trails, enjoy restful vistas, flowering trees, majestic palms, and the nation’s largest bamboo collection. Thanks to our mild climate, plants from all over the world thrive here. Our diverse topography provides a variety of microclimates giving the visitor a sensation of going from a desert environment to a tropical rainforest, all within 37 acres.Located 30 minutes north of San Diego in Encinitas, California, San Diego Botanic Garden features numerous exhibits, including rare bamboo groves, desert gardens, a tropical rainforest, California native plants, Mediterranean climate landscapes, succulent gardens, an herb garden, firesafe landscaping, a subtropical fruit garden, and native coastal sage natural areas. In June of 2009, we opened the Hamilton Children's Garden, the largest interactive children's garden on the West Coast.

My wife and I visited on a Saturday morning in July soon after they opened. "Garden" doesn't do it justice. We walked for nearly 3 hours through bamboo groves, rain forests, herb gardens, palm forests and Mediterranean landscapes. The cool, humid sea breezes felt pretty good for folks in temporary escape from a hot dry desert climate.

The "garden" is well maintained with lots of gently rolling paths. The plants are well marked with descriptions and scientific names. There's also a gift shop with snack bar and rest room facilities.

This is one of nicest botanical gardens we've visited. I'm sure we'll be back sometime.

If you're in the area, DO NOT MISS this garden; it's one of the best I've visited, and I have been to hundreds of gardens around the world. Full of colour and texture and beautifully arranged...there's so much to explore here, you could easily spend the entire day, though 2-3 hours would allow you to see most of the highlights. The palm canyon and bamboo area were my favourites, oh and the walled garden too, and the focus on ecology and rare species was terrific too. All the species are discreetly labelled so that you can identify anything that catches your eye - even today, not all botanic gardens do this, so it's good to see it consistently used here.

Big thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the San Diego Botanic Garden - you're doing a great job!

I got married here several years ago and we return each year for the beauty! The flowers are stunning and the different areas are so neat to explore. The childrens area is especially cool and include a few activities. One year they had a bunch of succulents and you could make a paper pot and take a plant with you! What a great idea! Our plant has grown so big and serves as such a special memory. They only really serve snacks so make sure you eat before you arrive. These gardens are incredibly beautiful and worth a visit or more!

An oasis in San Diego! Beautiful gardens, waterfall and ponds and two children gardens that the kids have great fun all day! We packed picnic food and stayed at the gardens all day and loved it!
A must for garden enthusiasts and a great place to have a wedding, birthday party etc
