Owner description: Explore four miles of garden trails, enjoy restful vistas, flowering trees, majestic palms, and the nation’s largest bamboo collection. Thanks to our mild climate, plants from all over the world thrive here. Our diverse topography provides a variety of microclimates giving the visitor a sensation of going from a desert environment to a tropical rainforest, all within 37 acres.Located 30 minutes north of San Diego in Encinitas, California, San Diego Botanic Garden features numerous exhibits, including rare bamboo groves, desert gardens, a tropical rainforest, California native plants, Mediterranean climate landscapes, succulent gardens, an herb garden, firesafe landscaping, a subtropical fruit garden, and native coastal sage natural areas. In June of 2009, we opened the Hamilton Children's Garden, the largest interactive children's garden on the West Coast.

“Beautiful gardens”
Reviewed June 16, 2012

A beautiful place to visit and it was great to find out the names of all the lovely plants we had seen around the area. The bamboo grove was amazing. For the less able though it is not easy to get around as the site has some very steep walks.

“A beautiful gem in Encinitas!”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

When we moved here we wanted to learn about good plants for the coast. Not only did they have great local plants, but also lots of displays of interesting plants from all over the world.

“Not just plants and flowers”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

Beautiful flowers and exotic plants aside. You also get to see many different bird species, butterflies, as well as frogs and turtles in the pond. Lots of little surprises around every corner. You will be pleased with this visit.

“Nice, but pricey”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

When the beaches were way too crowded on Memorial Day, we decided to give a walk in the San Diego Botanic Garden a try.
We had a nice visit, enjoying the succulents, bamboo, observation tower, and waterfall. We spent about 2 hours walking around. I will say that the gardens are well tended to.
I felt that the price was too high at $12 per adult and $2 for parking. I think that if the price had been lower, I could have rendered more stars. But for $26 for two people for 2 hours, this is average at best.

“Very Beautiful and Peaceful”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

We had a very nice visit to the Botanic Gardens. They had a really beautiful and peaceful rainforest with a waterfall. Beautiful flowers were everywhere and had a really neat bamboo forest, featuring all different types of bamboo. It was worth the drive from Pacific Beach, where we were staying.
