This is the place! We've been going here for 30 years. They have one of the best Chicken Soups in town. Two bowls, a large cabbage salad (very tasty), 2 orders of refried beans and salsa with chips and you're set for about $20. I always have one of Felix's Margaritas while I wait. This is a family business and all the kids went to school locally. Be aware that they take the month of February off for a family vacation. Everyone used to go down to central Mexico where the family comes from, but since the Cartel violence they've been taking time to visit the sights in the States. Great place & great people.

I was staying one night in Carlsbad. Hoped for reasonable Mexican food. Unfortunately it was really bad choice. The place is decorated in Mexican stile with menu including authentic Mexican items. Sadly, the taste did not stand up. Tortilla soup contained ovecooked chicken breast, grated cheese and tortilla shreds. The broth was absolutely tasteless. Sope with carne asada was bland and undercooked. Same goes for chille relleno. The service thou was very nice.
In summary - does not represent Mexican food. Please avoid.

I'm used to a lot of taquerias in the Palo Alto/Redwood City area and this was at least as good as the best of those. I was glad that they provided the choice of retried beans or (for a dollar more) black beans, as I suspect the refried beans are not vegetarian. So this was fine for us vegetarian types. The service was excellent.

A bit disappointed w this place. heard some good things but....
Two things are necessary for me to recommend Mexican restaurants. homemade tortillas and sauces ...XNay on both of these. Salsa was decent but enchilada sauces canned. Fish tacos mediocre. Both carnitas and Carne asada very average. Chile Relleno decent.
Service so-so. Prob Will not go back for a while. Will give another shot & last try later .

The best Mexican soups in San Diego. Locals go there for the soup; the other Mexican fare is average. Unassuming restaurant in Leucadia (adjacent to Encinitas) a laid-back beach community. Lots of locals eat here. Recommended soups: tortilla, michoacan, fish. Soup portions are huge. Avoid the watered down iced tea.
