“Awesome place. People not soo much.”

Self Realization Fellowship Hermitage & Meditation Gardens
Ranked #1 of 42 things to do in Encinitas
Attraction details
Reviewed June 22, 2013

I looked up places in Encinitas here and saw that SRF was the number 1 attraction. So I have it a try. The scenery and atmosphere were amazing. However ignorant people made it impossible to meditate. Loud children, adults speaking in foreign languages loudly, many distractions. Other than that I would recommend it. Maybe bring a book instead of trying to meditate so if you get distracted its not that big of a deal. Also I went on a Saturday so maybe it's not the best time to go.

The scenery was fantastic and peaceful and the landscaping amazing and it is free to go through the gardens. If you're in the area, definitely go here and walk through the place.

It is truly an amazingly serene and beautiful space, high atop the cliffs in Encinitas. Simply stunning. And come to find out, the rumors in Carlsbad are that SRF is actually the location of a "Mormon CULT!" which couldn't be farther from the truth. There is sun and shade and a bit of a steep, slow staircase so for seniors and people with disabilities it may be a challenge.

This meditation garden is well kept and beautiful. It is located just south and west of the Self Realization Fellowship bookstore, behind the temple. If the gardens are open, you walk through a gate and up the stairs to the right. There are tropical flowers and water everywhere you look. The garden is lush, narrow and long and provides a cliff top view of the ocean below. It's a beautiful place to be alone in your thoughts although I find that my senses are easily distracted by the visual delights. The fellowship strives to create a silent, peaceful environment so it's best to go without small children.

This is like nowhere else in the world. It is a bit of heaven on earth. So peaceful with breathtaking views of the ocean and the surfers. The landscaping is amazing...the most beautiful flowers and trees that I have ever seen. My cousin who is a Master Gardener, named some of the flowers and trees for us but said there were some that she did not know and she was amazed at the care that is given to them. The arrangements are a sight to behold. If you come to San Diego, you must come here!
