“Great”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Booked here because there really aren't any good options in Berkeley (that is a hint for those heading there, most of the hotels there are in questionable areas and parking is tricky). Glad I stayed here. This is the third hotel I have used in this little area and it is by far the best. Clean, very nice staff. I got a room on the 12th floor and it had an amazing view. The room was clean and comfortable. fast internet. This will be it next time.

We recently stayed here for a single night on our way through town on the train. We discovered the place when it was part of the Woodfin chain, and continue to love its location and the wonderful suite-style rooms. The staff is very friendly and was eager to help us in any way. The included buffet breakfast was extensive with many choices, both hot and cold, and plenty of room to sit and enjoy the meal. The immediate neighborhood has several dining options.

The adjacent busy railroad tracks can be either a plus or minus for this property. For us, the convenient access to the Emeryville Amtrak station (an easy walk using the elevator-equipped walkway across the tracks) and the frequent passing trains is something we enjoy. The view of the tracks from the room balconies on the hotel's east side is very nice. For those who might prefer to avoid the sounds of passing trains, I recommend booking a room on the west side of the building. By ALL means avoid the hermetically sealed rooms on the top (12th) floor of the building. These rooms have no balconies and their windows do not open even a crack.

The City of Emeryville offers free bus service centered at the MacArthur BART station. If you use this service, be prepared for a "rustic" experience. This is a small city bus, not a hotel shuttle. Look for the Powell/Shellmound bus and tell the bus driver you want to get off at the Hyatt House. You'll be dropped off about half a block, and within sight, of the hotel. As I mentioned, it is extremely easy to get from the Emeryville Amtrak Station to the hotel if you arrive by train.

Room Tip: Like trains? Get a room on the east side, upper floors offer better views. Don't like trains...

I'm a business traveler who is on the road three weeks per month. I want a hotel that is quiet, comfortable and functional.

I really wanted to give this hotel a better review, it has so much going for it. Most of what I didn't like may not be an issue for others.

At check-in I was given a "bay view" room on the 12th floor and was asked if I was ok with not having a balconette. I said that was fine..if I had known what that meant I would have said no. The term "bay view" is deceiving, as there is a bay, but it's a few buildings away over a freeway. The windows in the top floor rooms are square with odd shades.

The room itself is functional and very austere. The furniture really didn't fit and the division between the bedroom and sitting area made the rooms feel small. I had trouble finding enough plugs for my devices and there was no plug close enough to the couch for me to work with my laptop plugged in. The best way I can describe the room is it felt like a hospital room with a nice bed.

The free breakfast in the morning was ok, it was the usual hotel stuff. After two days I started looking for other options.

The bathroom was functional. The hotel doesn't seem to offer moisturizer as part of its amenities which was odd.

Parking was ample and the staff were helpful. I won't be coming back, not because I was offended or didn't feel welcomed. The hotel just isn't for me.

Room Tip: Stay off the 12th floor.

If I could give this Hyatt House 10 stars, I would gladly do so. They exceeded every single expectation I had. This was my first time staying at a Hyatt House property - my only other experience was at an all suite hotel in Palm Springs. It was 3 stars, so I wasn't sure what to expect here. Boy, was I surprised!

First, this property is centrally located to just about everything. It's less than 2 miles from the Macarthur BART station; in front of the AmTrak Emeryville station, and minutes from bus stops. The hotel offers a free shuttle up to 3 miles away, so transportation to & from the BART station was a breeze. The property itself is pretty big! There is an outdoor pool & jacuzzi that looked nice EXCEPT they're directly in front of the restaurant so everyone can see you.

Full breakfast is served daily - eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, juice, coffee & tea - from 630-930 am. I love that - it is so cost effective, especially when you're traveling with hungry kids! The room itself was the highlight of this place. It was a full-on suite with a balcony, fully functioning kitchenette (fridge, freezer, electric range, microwave/convection oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, pots, pans dishes, glasses, and silverware), separate bedroom and bathroom, with TV's in both rooms! The living room was HUGE, as was the bedroom and bathroom. Apparently, this hotel underwent some recent renovations, and from what I understand, the upgrades are a HUGE improvement. The decor is very modern and clean. Whoever did the planning made great use of the space. Oh, i must add, although the AmTrak train was loud, we slept soundly - no issues at all.

The staff were professional, courteous, and very welcoming. They made the stay that much better! Overall, I REALLY enjoyed our stay here and the next time I come up to the Bay, we are staying here - it's the best value in town!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room on a high floor - it'll be bigger and you'll have a better view of the...

I love this hotel. It is clean, and the breakfast in the morning is complimentary and good. The location of this hotel is prime. If you are visiting the Bay Area or San Francisco, this hotel is a good location because you are in the midst of everything. Napa is about 50 mins. north, and San Francisco is about 5 min. just over the bridge. There is good shopping and food in this area also. The rooms are very nice also

Room Tip: The rooms with the kitchen and living room are awesome.

Hyatt House took over this property from Woodfin. If anything, it is now even better than when I stayed at the Woodfin. Rooms are very large, clean and very well furnished with full kitchens. Location is proximate to many bustling Emeryville high tech firms and shopping centers and convenient to transport. Staff is exceptionally cordial. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of tasty unhealthy selections along with the yogurt and fruit. Enjoyed a standard chicken caesar salad at the bar on arrival in late evening.
Recommendation 1: Ask for a room on the higher floors and/or facing west. The rail tracks to the east of the building can be noisy. If you are on a lower floor facing east, you may want to have earplugs.
Recommendation 2: Easy access from SF and from downtown Berkeley via the F bus. Not-so-easy access from MacArthur BART via Emeryville shuttle.
Recommendation 3: Shuttle was not clearly marked and did not stop at the location designated. Lucked out at MacArthur asking a very kind local.
Recommendation 4: On an earlier trip from MacArthur to the Woodfin, a sleazy taxi driver offered an extended unrequested grand tour of greater Oakland. Use your cell phone GPS app to check.
Recommendation 5: Overall, this property works very well. Make reservations early -- this hotel is often fully booked.

Room Tip: West side and/or upper floors for quiet and view

Just stayed a couple of nights and was very happy with the newly-refurbished room.

Thanks to Kevin (Assistant Deputy Manager) for his personal help with our changing dates.

The rooms were great. Everything was immaculate and the room was everything I would want. The location was perfect - with a cool Market-place right on the doorstep.

I would highly recommend this hotel to business travellers and families alike.

Thanks Hyatt House Emeryville!
