Stayed here a couple of times with rooms facing the bay and was pleased during each of our stays. Beautiful, sunny outlook to the Bay Bridge and SF. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room rate included a full breakfast buffet, which wasn't the best taste wise, but still, better than not having any. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. We once stayed in a 1 bedroom junior suite with a kitchen, and it felt like home. There is also a nice pool on site. The location is also excellent, with many places to eat, shopping malls, and a movie theater all within walking distance or 1 minute by car. There's also a shuttle bus service (Emery-Go-Round) with a stop close to the hotel and that goes to the MacArthur BART station, among other places. Will definitely stay here again.

We stayed for 3 nights and attended the Cal graduation. Just about a 10 minute drive to campus and it was out of the congestion of Berkeley. Hotel room was perfect with the sitting room and little kitchen. The bar was great and the bartender Jacob is the greatest. We would stay again.

Room Tip: choose the front of the hotel as the back has the noise from the train

We had the privilege of staying here Mother's Day weekend before heading into the City for a day of museums and shopping. I normally stay at higher end Hyatts but decided to go with this one based n the incredible value we were getting (almost in San Francisco at a fraction of the cost). We didn't have a whole ton of time to take in all that the hotel had to offer but we were very pleased with our stay. The staff was super accommodating and befitting of a much higher end hotel. The rooms were well done and the extra sitting area with fold out couch was perfect for our little ones. Throw in the free breakfast, parking and wifi in this day and age of nickel and dining.....and you have a WINNER.

Truly delighted with this hotel - excellent, helpful staff, large, comfortable rooms. If any complaint, it's the size of the breakfast area -- the buffet breakfast was so popular with visitors, it was simply packed each morning. It was difficult to find a seat.

Room Tip: Spend a little more and select a bay view room [west facing]. These rooms are quieter [train tracks...

We stayed here overnight before our trip on the California Zephyr early the next morning. Our room was overpriced (about $220) but admittedly we got the most expensive room available. I wanted a quiet room on the opposite side of the hotel from the train tracks, and paid dearly for the privilege.

Otherwise, the hotel was fine. Helpful front desk, and very nice (and free!) hot breakfast, including oatmeal, eggs, toast, bagels, juice selection, and coffee. Pancakes were not good but everything else was fine.

The hotel was actually a little farther of a walk from the Amtrak station than I had been led to believe. You have to walk out the back door, across the hotel parking lot, over the footbridge, and down the other side. I would not want to do this alone at night but we were fine in the daylight.

We stayed here for two nights with our 2 year old daughter recently in a one-bedroom kitchen suite. The location is great. We visited friends in Oakland, went to a wedding in Piedmont, and visited San Francisco, so being close to all the freeways was great and made it very easy to get around. It's also nice that there is so much stuff within walking distance, like a Trader Joe's to stock up your fridge, convenience stores, and some higher-end shopping.
The suite was nice, with double doors that fully closed (important when traveling with kids for quiet at bedtime!). The bed was firm but comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size with good water pressure in the shower, and several decent toiletries supplied. The Borrows program is really nice, letting you use kitchen appliances, personal care items, and technology items you may need while you're staying there. We needed a portable crib and they brought it in all set up already. My daughter always sleeps with her blanky and 3 stuffed animals and she thrashes in her sleep so they end up all over the place. When we came back to our room after housekeeping was finished, her crib was set up with her blanket nicely folded and her 3 little animals all arranged around it, with an extra pillow and sheet just for her. It was so sweet of them to do that for my little girl. :) I thought the service was great in general, the "House Hosts" (reception) were very friendly and helpful at all times.
The breakfast was good, not gourmet, but tasty and plentiful. There are healthy and unhealthy options. I'm gluten-free and found something I could eat every morning with no problems. My husband liked the coffee at breakfast (different than the in-room coffee).
The kitchen suite was very well equipped, and if they didn't have what you wanted (like a blender), you could use the Borrows program. They had a cheese grater, a strainer, pots and pans, utensils... everything. The only thing missing to make it a "real" kitchen would be an oven.
Our room was on the 10th floor, which wasn't a problem, as there are 3 elevators and they're very fast. We did face the train station and the hills, and while the view of the hills was pretty, the train was pretty noisy, even that high up. It didn't wake up our daughter or disturb our sleep or anything, but you could definitely hear when a train went by. I think if I return here I will pay the little bit extra to get a bay view room. Please note that if you are a nitpicker who likes to grump about everything that isn't 100% perfect on vacation, you may not enjoy this place, as there were two loose threads on our couch arm and a scrape on the paint by the door - oh no!
We would definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area, and I will recommend it to my friends and family too.The free full hot breakfast, free parking, location, service, and 1-room suite make it a great value for us.

Room Tip: Pay for the upgrade to the bay view for a quieter room.

My son came across this place online...frankly we were not expecting much, due to the relatively low price. We were surprised to find clean spacious rooms, which included sitting are and full kitchen. Location was convenient and breakfast (included) was much better than the usual fast food type provided at most hotels.

Room Tip: The only negative was a bit of noise from nearby Amtrak. Get a room on top floors on opposite side o...
