HYATT house Emeryville / San Francisco Bay Area

After a 5-night stay you tend to know and understand the operations, the staff, the level of amenities, the location, and the energy of a hotel. Though I usually avoid the big-name generic type of hotels, especially the family-oriented chains, Hyatt House Emeryville is a hotel I can recommend for all the right reasons.
Operations: The place runs very efficiently. The free breakfast begins at 6:30 on weekdays and 7:00 on weekends. The housekkeeping is impeccable. From my perspective, the operations are well-coordinated and make sense.
The Staff: I have rarely witnessed a more enthusiastic group willing to assist and offer helpful suggestions. I had an issue with an initial room on the "wrong" side of the building. The next morning Shelly was able to assign a similar type room on the "right" side. I am sleeping much better.
Amenities: The rooms are large for standard. The bathrooms are also larger than usual for standard. There is a large window with lots of light. The king bed is so luxe although the sheets feel muslin-like. The elevators are very fast. All common areas are well-thought out. There are 2 free PCs located in the lobby.
Location: Emeryville was a centrally-located point for my meetings and events. Lots of free parking around here to patronize the restos, shops, etc. In San Francisco parking is a big mess, hard to find, and expensive.
Energy: Why not? This is a great place to work.
If you bring family and not on a romantic vacation, this is the place in the SFBA.

The Hyatt House was an ok hotel. We had a King suite. The bed was comfortable and, overall, the accomodations were fine. The hotel could definitely use a face-lift. The walls were scuffed and the carpets worn. The water pressure in the shower was pretty anemic. Unfortunately, we were on the railroad track side of the building and the horn from the Amtrak trains can be loud, although we weren't awakened by the horns.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the Bay side.

I was able to stay one night here and the view was spectacular. The location was within walking distance to shopping, eating and the train. I ate dinner in the restaurant and it was great.
I would stay here again.

I stayed at the HYATT house in Emeryville for two nights in May 2012.
It was close to Bay Bridge, UC Berkeley, and an upscale shopping mall where you can find virtually most of the popular stores.
The hotel was spacious with a separate living room and kitchen. The bed was VERY comfortable and the view was great: I was able to see the Bay Bridge and Treasure Island from my 8th floor room.
They served a full breakfast including eggs and bacon/sausage.
It was a good deal for the price I paid.

One primary point when making a reservation at this hotel - determine if your room is a "standard" room or a "suite". I made my reservation with a Hyatt agent directly and was not informed that there were 2 room types. My first stay was in a suite - a kitchen and sitting area with a separate king bed bedroom separated by doors so I assumed all the rooms were like this in the Hyatt House. I was surprised that this was not the case when I checked in the 2nd time. The standard hotel rooms face away from the bay and towards the Amtrak station, which is unsettling when the trains blow their air horns at the early hours of the morning. The hotel was full so I was relegated to the standard room when all along I was expecting the roominess and convenience of the suite.

Both rooms had stains on the carpet - annoying, and stains were present in the hallway as well. I would think that carpet steam cleaning would be standard maintenance here but that is not the case. My first room was missing a DVD player and the 2nd stay found me asking for a clock radio since the iPod player was missing and there was no music or way to tell time at all. The beds were comfortable, divots in the mattress that come with older mattresses (unfortunately) were present, and the standard Hyatt amenities such as a ginger soap (not a fan of that scent) and Aquafresh toothpaste. The bathroom is a typical, average set up - no stone or higher-end build out but plastic and fiberglass instead with ceramic tile floors. There were scrapes on the moulding and the tub had a number of nicks. Apparently the hotel is undergoing renovations so this should all be addressed at some time as the renovations are hardly noticeable, which is nice (from a noise and convenience POV) but not that nice as you wait for the short comings to be addressed.

A bonus of this hotel = free internet (woo hoo!), parking, and a full buffet breakfast. The breakfast consisted of Starbucks coffee, cereal, yogurt, eggs, breakfast meats (sausage or bacon), potatoes, and a special offering each day such as crepes or another nice surprise. Fresh and canned fruit and breads were also present as was OJ and apple juice.

Overall - nice looking hotel from the exterior, an interior that is waiting to catch up, an incredibly friendly staff that calls you by your name after they get to know you, and a convenient location to the Emeryville shopping and restaurants in a safer neighborhood that what neighboring Oakland has to offer. Bad - no BART nearby, standard rooms that face the horns of Amtrak.

Room Tip: Go for the extra space of the suite. You'll be happy you did and won't have to wake in the...

My husband and I spent three nights at the Hyatt House in Emeryville recently. Although it's true that the carpeting was a bit stained and the "living room" furniture could use replacing (not very comfortable) the place is immaculate, the employees wonderful and the location perfect.

The bed was very comfortable and the linens were nice.

There was a full kitchen in the room and if we didn't feel like eating out at night (which we didn't) we could walk to the very close Trader Joe's and get whatever we wanted and come back to the room and eat.

The exercise room was certainly adequate. There were a couple of treadmills, an elliptical machine and a rowing machine, along with some free weights. It was never croweded when I went to use it.

The breakfast buffet was great. There were always eggs, breakfast meat, great oatmeal, bagels, fruit, etc., etc. And, it was free, so I can't complain about a thing.

The area is perfect. There is a shuttle which will take you from the hotel to BART so if you want to go into San Francisco, it's an easy trip. The van drivers were always great.

We go to California a couple of times a year and will be sure to always stay at the Hyatt House in Emeryville!

Solid hotel with a nice free breakfast buffet but I found the furniture dated and well used, the bed hard and the pillows flat. The Hilton Garden Inn just down the road is better and at times cheaper.

On the positive side - there is some shopping and restaurants within easy walking distance.
