We just got back from spending our 20th anniversary at the Elk Cove Inn. We originally booked the Baywatch room, but when we arrived and took a look at the Seascape room across the hall, we immediately asked to switch if it were available, which it was. Baywatch looked better online, but in reality, Seascape had FAR better views, a nicer fireplace, and was just so much more private and cozy than Baywatch. We got to see one of the suites in the other building when we departed, and we liked that even more.
When we arrived, we were greeted with a basket containing two, fresh, BIG cookies, fresh fruit, and a bottle of wine. The inn also offers free wine and cocktails in the afternoons, but we didn't partake of that. They did make dinner reservations for us for one of our nights, and they even told the restaurant that it was our 20th anniversary, so we were treated like royalty there, too (Cafe Beaujolais in Mendocino).
The inn has its own access to the beach, which is so secluded that you practically have the whole thing to yourselves. It's a great walking beach, and the surf is very rocky, which provides endless wave action. The breakfasts at the inn were fabulous... better than just about any restaurant. It's buffet-style with lots of selection, and the breakfast room has beautiful ocean views from every table.
The room was spotlessly clean, and to our surprise, the staff made up our room while we were having breakfast in the morning! There are candles in the room (to add to the romantic ambience), a cozy bed, cozy blanket throws, cozy robes, and a selection of cozy hot beverages (coffee, teas, hot chocolate). There's even a flashlight in the room in case you want to take an evening stroll on the beach. They seem to have thought of everything.
We will DEFINITELY go back!
