If you're considering staying at this way over-priced lodge, I highly recommend you do NOT. My family and I just returned home from a two-night stay here. I reserved three nights, but because of our unpleasant experience the first two days, we decided to check out early.

The room they gave my hubby, two teenagers, and me was old and grungy and was directly in front of the lodge dumpsters. The phone in our room didn't work at all, the TV didn't work properly, there were ants in the bathroom, a wasps nest on our tiny balcony, and to top it off, the customer service throughout our stay was very poor.

The absolute only bright spot about this lodge was that it's about 10 minutes away from the entrance to Yosemite -- convenient. However, even more convenient are the lodges within Yosemite Valley, which is where we're staying next time.

This was my second visit to this hotel and it was every bit as good as the first. The River View room was roomy and how can you complain about white water rivers running right below your balcony. The location is brilliant with the National Park entrance just minutes away. I especially enjoyed taking a long hot whirlpool bath before bed and then having an early morning swim in view of the granite splendour of Yosemite. The River restaurant is also very pleasant for both dinner and breakfast.

Room Tip: No other choice it has to be a River View room every time

I didn't expect luxury but nor was I expecting such down-at-heel accommodation. Our room wasn't very clean and there was a hole in the bed sheet. We didn't like the look of the restaurant and ate elsewhere.
Although the bar seemed at first to be unwelcoming, the barman at least turned out to be friendly.

This is more of a motel, and I would never stay in it if it were in NYC, Las Vegas, Chicago, etc. But for the Yosemite area, it's fine. Very convenient to park entrance with clean accommodations.

We stayed three nights in a riverview room with a wonderful view of the rushing Merced River from our balcony. Our room had two queen beds (comfortable enough), gas fireplace, ceiling fan, flat screen TV, kitchenette, small fridge, coffeemaker, and microwave. The bathroom was huge, with a spacious counter and super-large Jacuzzi tub/shower combo.

Some things have been updated, but it could use a little more updating. I think if they just replaced the carpet, blanket, and bedspreads, that would go a long way. (Dark floral bedspreads actually looked fairly new, but white comforters would give a cleaner, modern look.) The pink tile in the bathroom is a bit outdated, but it's all right. Our A/C didn't work very well the first two nights, but then it was fine the last night. We saw a couple of ants in the bathroom and kitchenette, but it wasn't a major problem.

Ladies, bring a travel-size hair conditioner because they have only shampoo or conditioning shampoo. Other amenities were fine -- plenty of soap, hand lotion, shower cap. One thing that really bothered me was that there was no clock radio in the room -- I like to be able to see the time, especially at night.

We liked the restaurant. Dinner was delicious (although a little pricey), and the breakfast buffet is an outstanding bargain for $10.99. The staff was pleasant and courteous. There is also a pizza place, if you want to keep dinner costs down.

There is a shop next to the office with nice gifts and groceries and snacks. There is a gas station and a convenience store about a mile down the road. Otherwise, there wasn't much else around except for the park.

There is absolutely no cell phone service. We did not purchase the Internet package. When traveling through Yosemite, every so often you will get connectivity for a couple of minutes. Tip: compose e-mail messages ahead of time and hit Send. When you see that you have coverage, open your e-mail and your messages will be sent and new ones downloaded. If it is very important to be in touch while at the hotel, you'd better purchase the internet package.

Each building has a small pool, and they all looked very nice. This is a popular spot for bus tours, but those folks have separate dining areas. We never had a problem being seated at the restaurant.

No, it isn't like staying at a 5-star resort, but I think it's fine for a few days while visiting an absolutely gorgeous national park.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the river is best.

We stayed here three nights while madly touring Yosemite during the day. Four of us stayed in separate king rooms with kitchenette, each having a balcony view of the roaring Merced River. We all found it clean and comfortable. The restaurants, a pizzeria and a full-service sit down, we're both acceptable. Mind you, they weren't over-the-top gourmet but better than average, I would say. They also offered a breakfast buffet which was actually quite serviceable save the scrambled eggs, which I have never had eggs that I really wasn't quite sure they were in fact eggs. The French toast, the fresh fruit etc. was quite good for $11 including coffee. We found the service at both restaurants to be excellent. It was actually a relief to be able to pull into your hotel at night and know that you had decent options for dinner without really having to think about it. This place does serve tour groups in tour buses, but we visited the weekend after Memorial Day and found the crowds quite manageable both in the park and at the hotel.

Room Tip: River view rooms worth it!

We had a mountain view room and the views were amazing. The hotel is dated, and our room seemed dark, but it was clean and spacious. Check in staff didn't seem that welcoming. Excellent location - the flat rock entrance (I think that was the name) was just down the road. However I regret eating at the restaurant. It had lovely river views, our server was fine, but the cleanliness and food wasn't great. On the surface it was clean, but as we looked out at the river view we could see the dust behind the wooden shutters as if only immediate areas had been cleaned. Again the restaurant is a bit dated and perhaps ready for a makeover. We wished we had eat at the pizza place next door to the restaurant.

They tell you the restaurants are not theirs, too convenient. My family went without food one morning because they would only serve tour groups and not hotel guests. No big deal unless you have reservations for things to do in Yosemite. Overpriced, with very average food and poor service.
