As a place to sleep at night this hotel is ok. Like other reviewers say, its attraction is the proximity to the park and given the distances between places in the area that is one big attraction. However, the rooms aren't brilliant. I wouldn't like to stay here for long as it didn't seem that clean although it was ok for a couple of nights. We had a pizza from the take away on site one night which was huuuuge. The following night we went to the restaurant which again was ok. We didn't use the pools although there were plenty - indoor and outdoor.

This hotel is very close to the west entrance of Yosemite National Park. Hotel was nice. The room was a bit dark inside. The lights needed to be brighter. We had the room that has a balcony facing the river. The view of the river is beautiful. It was nice to have a mini kitchen in the room. Also laundry area was close by.

Very bad and expensive lodge, close to Yosemite entrance. A lot of noise during the night, dirty room, wifi not included, bad cell phone coverage. Beautiful valley.

Very expensive for the value. next time i will choose hotel far away from the park but where i could rest well to enjoy hiking.

We were very happy with our stay. The rooms were large and clean if a little basic. We had a river view room which was well worth the upgrade for the lovely river view. It is very convenient for the park as it is only a few minutes drive to the park entrance. In twenty minutes drive you are in the valley.

We stayed at this hotel in October and were very disappointed. First, the water stopped in the middle of a shower every time I used it. I reported it after the first time at which they said they were so surprised, never happened before. Then when I checked out they said the same thing, like it was never reported the first time. Another family in the same building had the same problem as well. Second, the rooms are miserably dark. Some bulbs not working and just very little light. Third, they charge ridiculous rates for wifi and even charge to use the computers in the lobby. The staff have a true "I don't care attitude". The only plus was the kitchenette was convenient. I would not stay here again.

Looking at the other reviews, i can understand a little of what is written, we were lucky to be offered a free $400 upgrade, because the owner felt sorry for us that due to the Government shutdown, our holiday was being ruined. The suite was amazing very large room, kitchenette, living room with large jacuzzi, fire and TV, the bedroom had a balcony over looking the river, another TV and fire, the room was lovely the bedroom had a truly amazing shower room (so large you could have a party of 15 in it), several types of showers in one large pool
Unfortunately there wasn't much to do in the surrounding area, although there was a restaurant and takeaway pizza place, but then we were quite happy watching TV from the jacuzzi.

Room Tip: River view is lovely if you have a balcony

This hotel has one and only one thing going for it – its proximity to Yosemite Park. The hotel management knows it and uses it to charge premium prices for a drab and uninviting hotel. I doubt they get much repeat business. The hotel consists of a number of unattractive barrack like motel units clustered around a large asphalt parking lot. The room was dark and cavelike and the furnishings were worn (and this was a so-called de luxe river view room). In our room the space between the door and the door frame was at least ¼ inch wide - you could see daylight – I can’t imagine what the draft would be like in the winter, besides making entry super easy for a thief. The public areas of the hotel are equally unattractive and tired looking. The staff seemed poorly trained – mostly they just acted confused. There is nothing else in el Portal besides a gas station so there is nowhere to go to escape from this hotel. If you are coming from Hwy 140, stay in Mariposa instead – it is an attractive town. Get up early to get to the park and you can thumb your nose at this awful hotel as you pass by.
