Yosemite View Lodge

We stayed for three nights while visiting Yosemite. The hotel it's self is average. We had a king room with a river view. The room was big with a balcony, whirlpool tub, double shower and kitchenette. It was a bit dated and could really benefit from new beds and bedding. The big advantage is being 10 min from park entrance.

My wife and I just stayed there for 5 days. Great river view and great proximity to the park. Other than that, stay elsewhere. I travel a great deal and stay in hotels in many countries. If I owned this place, I'd be embarrassed to call it a hotel (and charge what they do). Their website is a gross misrepresentation of the facts. The room itself was somewhat grubby, dark and old, the linens threadbare. Two shower heads, only one of which gave hot water. The "kitchen" stove top would only warm foods. I was told this was the way they came from the factory so the phrase "kitchenette" is misleading. Kitchen would imply you can cook. The staff were slovenly and rarely smiled, it often seemed I was an inconvenience for them. The restaurant had very average food for above average prices. Some of the waiters were friendly but on average they didn't give a damn. Even the utensils were cheap. Technically the restaurant is not associated with the hotel so you can't put the charge on your room account. In short it appears this hotel takes every cent or profit and invests it elsewhere, not back into the hotel itself. There is a lack of chain hotels in this area, too bad.

Room Tip: get a river view

There are some pluses and minuses for this hotel. The biggest plus is the location just outside the Yosemite Park entrance at El Portal. Also, we enjoyed the balcony of our room that was right above the rushing Merced River. Gorgeous! The room had a good air conditioning, good TV, and a large room with kitchenette. Also, enjoyed the pool and hot tub.

Now for the negatives. It is VERY expensive for an older hotel with no additional services like free breakfast or free WIFI provided. Also, the shower in our room has to be the worst shower that we've ever experienced. We could only get warm water if the water ran at a trickle.

Of course, since it was near Yosemite, the food costs and gas in the area also are very expensive. We did enjoy the buffet breakfast at the River Restaurant (in the center of the hotel complex) at $10.95 each. There was a lot of variety with lots of fruit.

Fantastic location, only 5 mins away from the entrance to Yosemite park. Rooms are nice, clean and spacious although quite dated. Only downside to this hotel is the food availability. There is a main restaurant on site however it is very expensive and food is very average. The other option is a pizza restaurant which serves good food but is also very expensive.

On site shop is usefull especially for drinks etc.

This hotel has a great location for Yosemite. The rooms are large but tired. I found the bed linens and towels all a little old and worn and overall the room felt a bit grubby. There were clothes left by a previous guest in one of the drawers and the cleaners left old cloths in the bathroom on 2 days. The restaurant is ok but expensive for the standard of food served. I would definitely advise taking your own groceries and preparing simple meals there. On a positive note the pool was lovely to come back to at the end of the day and the hotel is very close to the park with a lovely drive in. I would certainly look to stay somewhere else I came again but would stay here if there was nothing else available. The beauty of Yosemite is definitely worth it.

great location to Yosemite National Park. Hotel itself very basic. Room size good, had river view room which was nice. Old interior, fridge didn't work, rooms were clean just old and outdated. Had pizza at restaurant was nice but overcrowded. Desk staff weren't helpful and ripped us off with wifi costs. Will visit Yosemite National Park again but will stay elsewhere.

This hotel may seem dated to some, but the location is fantastic. We were upgraded to a river view room when we arrived, and what an upgrade it was.We were given a ground floor room which was pretty large and had a small kitchen area which included hob and microwave. But the best thing about the room was when you opened the door to the patio.Running directly alongside our room was the River Merced in all its glory. And it wasn't just a gentle stream,it was a white water torrent.Amazing.If you are staying at this hotel you must try and get a ground floor river view room. The restaurant was very nice with good food and very friendly staff. The only let down was the bar which was a bit small and pokey, but we just purchased drinks form the hotel shop and sat on our patio with a cold lager and a beautiful river to admire.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a river view room.
