We attended a friend's daughter's wedding a couple of weeks ago and were delighted to be able to score a beautiful room in this glorious Italiante Victorian, just outside of Chico. The room was spacious with a great balcony, four-poster bed, large bathroom, and tons of decorations etc that you would expect in this kind of establishment. The bed was comfy, and the blinds did a reasonable job of keeping out the early morning light.

The grounds are beautiful, with roses, plum trees and so much more, an an unheated pool that is just fine in the very hot summer weather.

The innkeeper kept a low profile, and was very busy with a house full of guests, and we appreciated the quick turnover of our room after the previous guests. Breakfast was a sumptuous crepe meal, and overall this was a fabulous place to stay, and conveniently located near Gale Vineyards, the location of the wedding. The only drawback is that there is just nothing in Durham, not even a restaurant. The local market sells some egg rolls and corn dogs, but that's about it, and unless you need to be in the Chico area, there's no reason to seek out this property. If your plans include spending a night or two in Chico etc, however, treat yourself to a wonderful stay at this hotel!

On our way back to from Yoshimeti natural Park to Oregon, we hoped to find a good B&B in the Butte county. We had a surprising good stay.
We were surprised by the enormous great and green meadows and miles of fruitstrees. In the backgroud to the West the Mendocino Mountains, to the East the Sierra Nevada, with Paradise and Stirling City. Chico with an University, friendly, open people and a lot of different Restaurants only 10 min drive.
The Durham House B&B Inn is an historical place(1874) and restored and furnished in style. All the rooms are upstairs, breakfest and sitting round a fire on the firstfloor. All rooms have a fine balcony. A fine porch with sun and shade shows a beautiful garden with orange trees, avocadotree,Palmtrees, lot of Roses etc.
The breakfest was wonderfull.
We enjoyed our stay .

Room Tip: Depending the tempeture in the saison ; because Springtime we preferred the Sunny side of the house. By day warm, by night chilly. There is a swimming pool, only in summer, we think.

I grew up in Durham CA less than a mile from the Durham House Inn. When I was a child, it was a spooky, decrepit, neglected, old mansion that looked haunted. I was completely fascinated by it and longed to go inside and explore, but I was always too scared,. I never even knew if anyone lived there. Anyway, fast forward 25 years, and the old "Durham Mansion" (as it was known back then) is now a beautifully restored Victorian bed and breakfast. My husband and I stayed there for only one night but it was a wonderful stay. The room was very clean and comfortable with a super cozy bed. The owner, Cheryl, is very friendly and cooked a delicious breakfast. The grounds are lovely and very private. Unfortunately, being November, we were not able to use the pool, which is beautiful.

Durham is a very quick 10 minute drive from downtown Chico. I highly recommend the Durham House Inn. It was amazing to finally be able to go inside the house that intrigued me so much from my childhood. The owners have obviously put a lot of time and energy and care into turning the spooky old house into a charming inn filled with original details, antiques and modern touches (like satelite tv and very well appointed bathrooms in every room) We greatly enjoyed our stay and the next time we are in Durham to visit family, will certainly stay again.
