“This is Not a Restaurant but That Shouldn't Matter”
Review of Sophie's Cellars

Let me add my voice to the praises heaped on John and his enterprise, Sophie's Cellars. His wine knowledge is encyclopedic but offered without condescension or any sort of superior attitude. He simply shares his passion and makes it fun and appealing. He also manifests it in the small but superbly chosen inventory he keeps on hand. I haven't enjoyed the Happy Hour but was there when it was being laid out and sincerely lamented the fact that I simply had to leave to meet friends.

What a great experience we had at this charming store. We went specifically for Happy Hour. Had a very good red - Hella Nora ($8 a glass) and a simple but nice hors d'oeuvres spread ($7 each plate - refill is another $7). There were nuts, dates, prunes, three very good cheeses, crackers and absolutely delicious prime rib wraps. There is seating both inside and out. The owner kept the chimenea fired up and the locals who stopped in were very pleasant company.

We missed the happy hour by one hour but enjoyed the time spent here regardless. The owners are very friendly and talkative. We ordered the $10 wine tasting each which allowed us to taste 3 wines each which resulted in our buying two wonderful bottles of wine to enjoy later. The place has seating inside and an outside sitting area with wind break see through walls. The gardens are lovely and the experience is relaxing. We'll go there again when in the area for sure.

Great little gem with carefully curated local wines and cheeses. Free corkage at many local restaurants with your bottle purchase. Friday is locals night and all are welcome. You will love this place.

Nice wine tasting room. Lots of local fare, especially Pinots, which is what these parts produce the most with excellent results. If you're lucky, the weather will be nice and warm, which means in the spring or fall, summertime, it gets foggy out here near the coast. But just bring a jacket and sit outdoors, this proprietor has refined tastes and will steer you in the right direction after asking you a few questions about your personal wine preferences. He kind of a wine nerd, speaking frankly, and knows what he's talking about.
