Embassy Suites by Hilton Hotel Los Angeles-Downey

Reviewed March 14, 2013

I recently stayed at this property for three nights. It was my second stay there. It is a great property and was convenient for the area I needed to be in. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and clean. The bed was comfortable.
Elevators are very slow and the numbers on the control panel are blacked out. That is... black numbers on black background making it very hard to read. It wouldn't take much to paint the floor numbers white.
Free breakfast in the lobby (always a plus) with typical cereal, fruit, pastries and yogurt but also cooked to order hot meals: omelets, pan cakes, waffles, bacon and eggs. Logistically, they could arrange the flow a little better. The cereals and bread/pastries were crammed into a little nook where the coffee/tea service was also located. It made it difficult to get in and out.
The real downside of this property is the noise from within the hotel. Like most Embassy Suites, all rooms open out onto an atrium which amplifies noise from the ground floor as well as people talking in the halls. This seems to be THE place for social happenings on weekends and the parties spill out into the ground floor foyer. The party goers get louder and louder as the night goes on and the noise easily carries into the bedrooms. They usually shut it all down by midnight, though.
Overall, nice place and good experience. I'll probably use them again when in the area.

stayed 12 days working in the area. Rooms are spacious .It is an atrium hotel and I was on the 8th floor.Pretty hotel with a nice Koi Pond. Very comfortable bed and great shower. It is not a new hotel but very clean and they have a great restaurant. If you get to the hotel after 8 o'clock at night prepare to walk because they share the parking lot with the Downey Theater. One night i couldn't find a space and the manager moved his car so I could park. The town is not Beverly Hills just a boring La town .Lots of Mexican restaurants and the Stonewood Center mall (not any upscale stores)and not very nice. They have a nice breakfast with omelets cooked to order and a nightly recepeptin with free drinks. It is about 16 miles fron the lax airport. But if you have to stay in the area it seems like the best choice.

I was traveling on business and I am a fan of Embassy Suites, but this one did not stand out as anything exceptional. I was disappointed in the restaurant menu, I felt it had rather limited selections, and the Manager's Reception snacks were not even good bar snacks. Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, and it met my expectations of an Embassy Suite property.

Embassy Suites are pretty consistent with their product and this one meets all those expectations. The staff tho are who really make this place special. Everyone we spoke with was helpful and cheerful. We had the opportunity to speak with Mary, one of the managers on during the day, and she was so engaging and personable. It really made a great impression. We would stay here again! It is conveniently located and the premises are clean. The breakfast selections were fine.
Love the turtles and koi!

I stayed at this Embassy Suites for one night and everything was perfect except for the noises I could hear at night. There was a party downstairs and the people was screaming so loud that you could hear that in your room. The breakfast was ok but VERY crowded.

I picked this hotel because we were visiting family in South Gate and the Embassy Suites was just in the middle. When we arrived check in was quick. We were on the 5th floor 534 over the presidents weekend. The hotel has to sets of elevators opposite of each other so it's convinient for everyone no matter were you stay. We enjoyed our room it has that small living room with a couch, table, and a sink, microwave oven and a small refrigerater. Our room had the handicap accessible bathroom which made the bathroom really big. The weekend when we were there seemed to be very busy; the next morning (sunday) for breakfast was packed the line to get the made to order items was all the way to the elevator. But the staff was working very hard to keep everything going smoothly. So if you come on a holiday weekend expect this to happen. As for lunch or dinner there are so many places to eat that you can pick and choose from. Will we stay here again I believe so! Would I recommend it to someone else yes, we felt safe and comfortable.

The hotel is centered around a 8-story tall atrium which is the highlight of the hotel. The sights and sounds of a running stream with fish and turtles, seems to welcome you home to relax after a days work. The rooms have nice touches too, a spacious living room, lots of hdtv channels, granite counters, mini kitchen area.

The property is in good condition overall, but showing a little age. The furniture in my room showed a little wear, and there seemed to be some repair work underway on the atrium roof.

They host a lot of events, parties, showers, etc, downstairs that would sometimes feature loud music and boisterous people, but they seemed to be quite conscientious about wrapping up at a reasonable hour, so I never had trouble sleeping.

I can only find some minor points to complain about. My mattress was a bit saggy. The room didn't look unclean, but walking across the carpet my socks would pick up a bit of dirt. And the bathroom is way too small, it took practically a feat of gymnastics to get behind the bathroom door and climb into the shower.

I wouldn't say its a perfect hotel, but the best option in the area for sure. And taking into account the condition and price of other nearby hotels, I thought it was a pretty good value for $150 / night.
