“Stunning property faithfully redeveloped in line with Lautner's original style”

The buildings themselves are expertly refurbished, and waking up with the desert light streaming in from skylights overhead is incredibly refreshing.

The hotel owner was very communicative and helpful, answering all our questions via phone or text, and generally enhancing our stay.

“Stellar setting for private getaway”

Hotel Lautner was a real treat for this lover of desert modernism. Tucked away in an unpromising suburban-style neighborhood, it offers privacy and quiet in a beautifully designed structure that's been thoughtfully updated. The furnishings are cool, the bed is comfortable, the kitchen is well-stocked and will be handy once you realize that you don't want to leave but would rather hang out on your private sun deck. It's not in the center of the Palm Springs whirl, so won't be a good fit for someone who wants that, but it's close enough (10-15 minute drive) to head into town for a meal, and its location makes for quicker access to points north (like Pioneertown and Joshua Tree).

My only complaint: weak internet connection that brought to mind the days of dial-up. Surely this could be fixed?

“Perfect in every way”

There are not words that can adequately describe this amazing hotel. My Fiancé and i just got back from a 2 night stay in suite 3. I think the pictures and previous reviews really cover the incredible architectural and design aspects of this property, so no need for me to repeat. It's AMAZING.

But, what really made my stay special was the feeling the entire time that we were staying in a friends guest home. There are just so many thoughtful details, from the pool-ready basket by the door filled with magazines, towels and flip flops to the sleep masks and the perfectly appointed kitchen with everything you could want. Every tiny little need has been anticipated and provided for, so you just have this constant feeling of "we love you, treasured friend" surrounding you. Everything is of the highest quality, the towels are so soft and fresh and delicious smelling, the bed was DIVINE with such soft linens and perfect pillows. The care, thought and time that the owners have put into this place is astounding.

It was a fabulous get away, complete with pool lounging, record listening and sipping rose under the stars on our private patio in the warm desert night. We loved it so much, we are coming back in six months to get married here. :)

“Excellent Place for a Wedding”

We chose Hotel Lautner to have our Wedding Feb. 15th 2014 and it was an AmAzing experience from start to finish. It was the perfect location and the people who run the Lautner bent over backwards to make sure that our special day was perfect....Although they do have very strict rules at the Lautner given the History of the Property...as long as you follow them all is good....
We want the Thank the owner Tracey for everything she did for us...we even have guest who had such an amazing time they are booking to go back.
Thank You Thank You Thank You

“A Designer's Retreat”

The interiors are absolutely exquisite in their finishing, with every detail meticulously thought through and every convenience - bar one - provided. The only real drawback was internet reception which seemed spotty and at times, disappeared entirely - and for those travelling without the benefits of a US calling plan, wi-fi is absolutely essential. It is quite a drive from Palm Springs and it feels a little out-of-place in it's hillbilly neighbourhood, however, if you love mid-century design and can appreciate the love that went into its restoration, then it's definitely worth the effort. Lautner was perhaps the greatest residential architect of his era, however, designed precious few projects; so glad to see that this place fell into the right hands!

“A few things to know”
Reviewed November 21, 2012 for a stay in November 2012

If you're interested in the Hotel Lautner for the experience of staying in a really cool, restored architectural wonderbox, you won't be disappointed. But there are a few things anyone should know heading in.
1. It's not a "hotel." It's more a vacation rental. There's no reception desk or typical amenities or services, just 4 (beautiful) individual rooms, a common fire pit and plunge pool area. The check-in details are handled by Rick, a caretaker-slash-dude who lives nearby.
2. The location is ... well, there's a definite juxtaposition between the "hotel" and surrounds. The compound is a block away from an elementary school, at the end of a row of tract homes decorated with chain link fences and propane tanks. Dogs do their twilight bark. Roadrunners dart in front of your car. A wind farm is the dominant visual feature. Depending on which way you come, you might pass a super creepy pet cemetery.
3. Looking at the pictures, and no disrespect to John Lautner, this place is probably in its heyday right now. The owners have nailed the details, down to having Frank Sinatra playing when we arrived. It is damned neat to be in, a Star Wars-pod-meets-Vegas-condo that's been buried a few feet into an arty terrarium.
4. Expect to get up early. All that glass means plenty of morning light.

So, overall, this place is way worth seeing and staying in, but know that you're here mostly for the architecture.

“Awesome Stay at Hotel Lautner”
Reviewed September 2, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Just returned from a two night stay at the Hotel Lautner and had a great time. What a cool property with great history and a cool back story. Yes, Desert Hot Springs is not a mecca of fun things to do or restaurants to eat at, but that is not why you should come and enjoy the Hotel Lautner. It is a great place to relax and take in the beauty and design of the property.

Comfy Beds
Awesome Rain Shower
Private Patio to gaze up at the stars on a clear desert evening.

If you have the opportunity don't pass up the chance to check out the Hotel Lautner.
