We are San Diegan locals and foodies. We value great service, quality food, and excellent wine. Market exceeds in all these areas.

The service is stellar without being stuffy. The staff is fun and remembers the guests that frequent the location. Chrissy is my favorite server, who already knows if I need another glass of champagne. Michael is the best sommelier in San Diego. You can briefly describe what you like, and he picks an excellent wine without trying to oversell you.

Food is top-notch. The combination on the menu sounds odd, but blends so well together. Food starts with table bread of the most delicious warm jalapeno corn muffins and sourdough baguettes. Then, an amuse bouche is served.
For appetizers, pick anything with seafood - you can't go wrong.
Servers then bring out another amuse bouche before main course.
We've had the cabernet braised beef (their top seller), black cod (amazing), and lobster special (delicious).
Servers then bring another dessert amuse bouche.
Their dessert is pretty good - a little too fancy for me.

Portion sizes can be a little large, so I recommend to either split appetizer or dessert.
Wine menu is extensive and of non-main stream brands, so ask Michael for expert advice.

Lastly, servers come with house-made caramel that melts in your mouth.

An expensive dinner, so save this for a special occasion.

I've been eating here since they opened and they always impress. The new decor is a great change and only makes the restaurant better. Great service and even better food. Consistently great over the years. Highly recommended.

This was a great dining experience. Everyone in our group had an excellent meal. The soups, salads, and entrees were fresh, creative, and had excellent taste. One person in our party was a little younger and the waiter was very kind to retrieve a pizza expertly done in the brick oven and usually reserved for the bar area. The wine list was also very impressive. Out of all of our meals during our weeklong stay in San Diego, Market tops the list.

San Diego has an emerging restaurant scene, and there are a lot of places that are good but not consistently excellent. An exception is The Market. We've been going here for several years, and over the 8-10 times we've come, we've never been disappointed with anything on the menu, and the service is always excellent. It's a nice, comfortable space as well. Not to dressy, but not casual. It also has a very nice, but small, bar where you can order from the full menu.

Take a chance on anything on the menu. The waiters are good about steering you in the right direction.

Make sure to reserve in advance. Less than two weeks out and it's tough to get a decent time on Fri/Sat night. And, ask for the main dining room. The "red room" is a bit stuffy.

First and foremost, chef Carl is one of the top 5 chefs in SD. We LOVE his seasonal cuisine with veggies coming from Chino Farms.
Yes......there is a but coming......his new interior design/decor is terrible, awful, trendy in a bad way and annoying. This new "modern" decor is so trite and uninspiring as well as blinding. The LED lighting is so blinding that we almost left the restaurant. So much so it detracted from the food. So.....we will only eat I'm the bar from now on.
