Made reservations for this special occasion and hostess put us in lower level corner table for two overlooking the beach. Beautiful views! Service was excellent, Danny and helpers took great care of us. The calamari was outstanding. Entrees were delicious and birthday dessert to finish meal. Wonderful evening and memories! Definitely be back.

We went to visit the beach, however before going to the beach walk in to the restaurant to make a reservation for 1:30. We did this at 11am they were very accommodating and we were glad we made the reservation because the place was fully packed and one could not even walk in the parking lot. We got a nice view of the ocean the food was very good,so was the desert. We were able to walk outside on the little bit of turf when my son needed a break from sitting.Waiter was very helpful with menu selections and service waas great as well

Had a wonderful dinner at Jake's! Jake's is right on the beach just a few feet from the sand. We took another couple for a special meal and so we called about two weeks ahead to inform them and request an oceanfront table. We were seated right at our reservation time a the best table in the house. Just in front of a large window with no obstructions. It was a perfect sunset with 'green flash' (though Jake's can't take credit for that). They have semi-transparent sun shades and a woman came over at just the right time to raise the shade so we could watch the sunset in full glory.

The food at Jake's is very good. They are part of a small group of restaurants based mostly in Hawaii and a few in California. The menu is modern Hawaiian or Asian fusion with lots of fresh fish and bright Asian flavors. We shared several fish or seafood based appetizers and all were delicious. My fish entree was well prepared with coconut rice and sweet chili sauce. Delicious! We finished with dessert, sharing the Hula Pie, which is the signature dish from Kimo's (part of the same restaurant group) and it was heavenly.

Jake's has a small but well chosen wine list with only a couple >$100 and a half dozen or so local craft beers. Since it was a special meal for us I brought a bottle from our cellar and Jake's served it. $20 corkage fee. One criticism is that the wine glasses were rather small and not appropriate for high end wines.

In addition to the dining room Jake's has a very active and casual bar area that also serves small plates.

One other criticism is the charge ($5) for valet parking. Seems petty for someone who just spent a bundle on a meal (Jake's is not inexpensive).

All in all, an excellent dinner. Highly recommmended!

We love going to Jake's for their happy hour. Items on the Bistro menu are 40% off and its enough for us for an early dinner.

Restaurant is right on the beach and a great place to watch the sunset.

I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant on a Tuesday evening for dinner with a group of coworkers (party of 6 total) after a business meeting. Our reservation for 6:45 had been made weeks in advance. When we arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation, we were told our table would be ready closer to our reservation time--of course, no problem at this point. We waited and watched our reservation time come and go. All the while we saw a steady stream of people being sat, but really were not that concerned. Then about 40 minutes after our original reservation time, we were taken back to a table, only for the hostess to be "surprised" that the table was already occupied. The people at this table were eating their entrees, so it's not like they had just sat down. We were taken back to the front and told they had another table that would be ready "soon". Now I started really looking at the table situation. This is not a huge restaurant and there were two hostesses working the front. I noticed two empty side by side tables and watched as a party of 5 breezed in and was immediately seated at one of the tables. Really!!! Then someone finally had the idea to put two tables together so we could sit down. The manager was very apologetic, but that really didn't help because now we had a terrible view with half our party having their backs to the sea and the sunset (that is the whole point of eating here). The manager tried to make things right by giving us some appetizers. And we moved on.
About the food--it was OK. The food is not bad, but it's not that great. I had the seared scallops that basically came on a bed of bland rice pudding (the menu called it risotto--but fancy words don't make food taste better). Like someone else said in another review, I think they may be trying too hard to be hip with the food.
So now for the strangest experience ever. As we were leaving the restaurant, the manager comes up to us and asks if everything was OK, etc and re-apologizes for the seating debacle at the beginning--but then accuses our party of "calling one of the hostesses a name" and telling me that she was very upset about it. OK, really? I was shocked, as no one in our party called anyone a name. Not to mention there were at least two hostesses working and the manager---so it's not like one person was "to blame". Our group was so disturbed by this accusation, we ended up calling the restaurant back to get details of the crime and were told that "3 wait staff" had overheard someone in our party call someone "dumb@ss" under their breath. Now at this point, I'm thinking that comment might seem pretty appropriate given the seating delay and mix up. But I can't believe a manager would come and ask customers about this as they are walking out the door, nor can I believe that the "3 waitstaff" would have overheard any comments from our table, as we hardly saw them. There were never 3 people near us at ANY time. As someone else mentioned about the service, we had empty soda glasses more than once.
This is a poorly managed restaurant that must still be in business because of the location.
