Description: Jake’s Del Mar brings new American cooking to the edge – to the water’s edge that is. Located right on the beach in Del Mar Chef Duvinh Ta uses fresh, seasonal products as the inspiration for updating classic preparations of fresh fish, shellfish and premium meats. The lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch menus showcase clean, eclectic flavors and local, sustainable products that are complemented by Jake’s jaw dropping location on the sand. The nightly Chef’s Special is a seasonal creation that features the best seafood, meats and produce available and through the Legacy of Aloha program, Jake’s donates a portion the proceeds from the Chef’s Special to the San Diego Food Bank.

I brought my relatives from Utah to enjoy one of my favorite dining spots in Del Mar. Sadly, we were very disappointed as we had a reservation but still were made to wait for over an hour. We had requested a window table and told the hostess we would wait a bit longer to get one. An hour later, they finally sat us in the BACK of the restaurant nowhere near a window. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the manager, J.P., came over and tried to give a condenscending, scripted excuse of why were had to wait for so long and still didn't get our requested table. He was very rude and walked away from our table shaking his head at another employee. We were so upset we stood up and walked out the restaurant. See ya Jake's you will never get my business again.

We had reservations for 8 on a Saturday night but found that our shopping ended earlier then anticipated. Instead of driving all the way back to the hotel we decided to stop in early to see if there were any earlier reservations. Unfortunately there wasn't, but we were sat on the patio facing the ocean. It was dreary outside but the outdoor heaters provided the right amount of heat while still feeling fresh. Our server, Ricky, was so attentive! He came over just the right amount while still respecting our privacy. His suggestions were spot on and the food was delicious! We started with drinks, the shrimp cocktail, then the scallops and salmon. All done perfectly! We finished with an ice cream, chocolate fudge dessert. A must try!! We will be returning when we vacation here again!

We usually stop @ Jake's on our visits from Tucson. What a great place. They are in the process of remodeling and it is a pleasant improvement. We have never been disappointed in the food or service. We were served by Ashley on this visit and she is an absolute gem, tho none of the staff are anything but splendid. What a wonderful way to spend and hour or so.

While in San Diego last week we had the opportunity to meet business associates at Jake's for dinner. We had a very nice time. We got a table by the windows looking at the beach and ocean. There are not many venues with this kind of view. If you get the chance sit by the windows. The food was very tasty. We started out with calamari and fish ahi taco apps. Both were flavorful with the calamari tender and not rubbery and the ahi rare and flavorful. The dinners were nice size, delivered attractively, and tasty. I had the Mixed Seafood Pot which includes maine lobster, scallops, shrimp, fresh fish, saffron tomato broth. It was excellent! My associates had the scallops and the sea bass. Both done just right. The service was attentive but not intrusive and the micro beers cold and flavorful.

You will enjoy your trip to Jake's!

After a day in the surf and sun on Del Mar Beach, walk over to Jake's Del Mar for a delicious meal. Fresh fish and seafood all perfectly prepared. I love the Ahi - not to be missed - San Diego gets the freshest Ahi from the gulf.
