Thoroughly enjoyed our stay this past weekend to attend the Pacific Classic at DelMar Racetrack. The hotel staff were very friendly, cordial and helpful and simply made our stay memorable. The shuttle service was very convenient and we had minimal waits of 10-15 minutes at the hotel and racetrack. Obviously, Sunday was the big day with over 35,000 at the track, however The Hilton was able to provide adequate shuttle service in spite of the busy schedule. The Hotel Lobby/Bar was very modern and classy with timely service and generous libations. The flat screen was setup for the races which was a welcome sight during our stay. Confirming and printing boarding passes was simple and convenient from the lobby. Definitely a place worth staying for the wonderful accomodations of Delmar and the surrounding area. The staff always greeted us and we felt part of the Hilton Family. Great time and thank you for making our trip most memorable!

We just returned from this hotel. We normally stay at a time share down the street, but it was not available, therefore we decided to stay here at the Hilton. Hotel has just been refreshed. Lobby has lots of sitting area and a nice bar with a TV. There is also a covered patio outside, with plenty of tables and couches. The pool is heated, towels provided. Kids loved that. Our room was lovely, we were on the first floor, it faced the pool and had a balcony. Room was spacious and clean. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. We didn't have a fridge, we asked and one was brought over. We self parked, it was easier for us since we were in and out all the time. The breakfast buffet was OK, not amazing but OK. I would definitely recommend this hotel for families or business travel. It can get pricey with upgrades, pool side, buffet, etc....

My things were stolen from my room and NOTHING was offered to me! No Manager apology, no room - veru bad customer service. Concierge, Jennifer Fine, saved the day and helped me find a room at another hotel... Be careful and insist on meeting the Manager at this hotel...

Second time we have stayed at this property while attending the horse races at Del Mar. This time it was a last minute trip and the hotel had no vacancies. We took a chance an drove to Hotel anyway and they had room available. The room was great on the top floor with a view of the pool. The stay was wonderful as always except for a front desk employee. I called inquiring on a late check out and was placed on hold four different times because the person on the phone did not have a clue. Very disappointed in front desk staff. The location, however, is awesome if you are going to the track.

This hotel has undergone a recent renovation and sports a lovely modern look. Normally it would absolutely be my kind of hotel - a very boutique look. Unfortunately, the service is in need of an overhaul as well. Our main complaint - the valet. Parking in the lot is $19/night; valet is $23 - so for $4 a day more you can have valet with in/out privileges - normally this is a no-brainer for us. Normally however you'd find more than one person working the valet desk. As we checked in, there was no one to be found - just cars sitting in the driveway. We waited and waited until finally someone appeared, apologized, and took the keys from us. We figured it was a one-off experience. Sadly when we attempted to retrieve the car the next morning we found it was not. Only once did we ever see more than one person at the valet station; and that was when the hotel manager was apparently lending a hand (a gesture I appreciate, yet can't help but think the valet process could use a bit more management on the scheduling end of things). It was a frustrating experience that never got better.

Again, the renovations were nice but you could tell were completed in haste or cheaply. We noticed door seals falling off, wallpaper already bubbling. And for the life of me I don't understand why the towel rack in the bathrooms wasn't included in the renovations? The photos of the old bathrooms had one, but the new bathrooms do not. Makes no sense. Bathrooms were overall small and unfortunately we received dirty towels. Hallways were hot and muggy, apparently because the A/C was turned off. There is one small elevator and it was out of service for part of our stay. Fortunately the staircase trip up to the third floor wasn't too bad.

One bright spot of our trip - the food. Room service and the hotel catering were both quite good - far better than what you would expect from a hotel.

Overall we would not be likely to return to this location unless the price was greatly reduced. At current rates you do not get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Unless you are facing the pool courtyard, you are facing the parking lot/highway

Great location in Del Mar, walking distance to the race track and a short drive to the beach. Additionally, just off the interstate, so easy to find. The hotel is laid out perfectly, with the pool and sitting area in the middle. Found the check-in process perfect, the rooms were nicely appointed for the price and clean. Towels are available at the pool, the hot tub (was very hot), but nice after the beach. I found the staff to be very polite and friendly. The hallways can get a bit noisy with kids running around. Parking is a bit overpriced and the maid service was a bit late in the day, but other than that, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Try for a pool view or a 1st floor pool view (as you would get a sitting area).

I have stayed at the Del Mar Hilton several times now mainly to attend events at the Del Mar Race Track. I have always been able to check in early and the staff has always been beyond friendly. I have also attended several seminars at this hotel and their meeting rooms, food, etc. have all been exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel!!
