“Great Time!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2011

Viader Winery was a recommondation from a close couple that visited during their honeymoon, glad we listened! Though Viader is off the beaten path of Napa Valley, it's worth the drive (especially when you have a driver) - we scheduled our tasting early afternoon during a long day of touring, it was the perfect break from crowds as we nearly had the place to ourselves. Though we visited on a dreary rainy day, the view was still incredible and would be even more amazing on a sunny day. We sampled several wines while enjoying a small lunch and purchased 2 bottles to take home. Cante (our wine tasting guide at Viader) was very helpful, knowledgeable and great at his job!

“Viader: A highlight of Napa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2010

Viader's reds are a highlight of the Napa valley. The owners know their skillset and don't attempt to appeal to every palate. The result is a family of wines that highlight their land and exposure.

The tasting room at Viader is situated on a hillside, overlooking their vineyard and the valley below. The vineyard is sealed by a large iron gate, you will need to use the callbox for entry. Another review describes this as ostentatious; however, my wife and I describe this experience as civilized and relaxing. We were one of two couples present for the tasting. At $35.00 each (waived with purchase) we were well attended to and free to enjoy the view.

Viader is a wonderful experience, don't miss it.

“Pretentious and underwhelming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2009

While honeymooning in Napa, my husband and I have had the privilege of tasting some amazing wines and meeting some lovely people, neither of which occurred at Viader.

To begin with, Viader presents itself ostentatiously. From the wrought iron gates that require a call button to open to the mountain top castle (that does, incidentally, have breathtaking views) and topped off with a $35 tasting fee, Viader wants you to feel as if it exists to serve the elite.

While the wine attendant was knowledgeable, we were immediately put off by her introduction of VIader's creater, Delia Viader, as "she has a Phd in psychology, an MBA from MIT, and her winery certification from Berkley". Well, la di da, but I'm here for the wine. The wine itself was mediocre and incredibly overpriced. We did enjoy the cab franc as well as the Viader "V" (the signature blend), but its certainly not worth 100 bucks a bottle.

More than anything else, we were struck by the bourgeois pretension. We did not feel comfortable or relaxed, despite the gorgeous setting. But no amount of pretension offsets a mediocre product,. To the chagrin of the wine attendant, we paid the tasting fee and walked away without a purchase.

There are over 400 amazing wineries in the Napa area. This is not one of them. End of story.

“One of the Best Tastings We Had in Napa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2009

A friend suggested we visit and, despite the stiff $35 tasting fee, we set up an appointment because he raved so. Turns out the tatsing fee is waived if you buy a bottle (or more). I was told they do this to discourage "recreational drinkers" from signing up.
The tasting itself was great as we had 5-6 of Viader's excellent wines and the view is phenomenal. Our host was very personable let us proceed at our own pace. The best (or second best, we can't decide) winery visit out of a dozen or so that we had. It's right up there with Pride and just ahead of Schramsberg.

“Fantastic Wines! BREATHTAKING WIne Tasting Room!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2008

Hello

I have to say, we are lovers of wine! Every other week we head up to Napa (about 45 min away from us) and set out to try new wines, tasting rooms, places and food!

One of our most favorite places to visit ever is Viader Winery in Deer Park. this place is actually a prive home that belongs to Delia Viader. Her home is there (and can be rented out for corporate dinners etc) and also there is a breathtaking tasting room. This place looks over 50 acers of vines on a hill that follow down and look over to a HUGE lake/reservoir. Picture this while sipping on some AMAZING FANTASTIC wines with nothing but the sounds of the wind blowing in the background!

They offer a Tempranillo, Rose (FANTASTIC and I HATE Rose!), Cabernet, Syrah, Cabernet Franc (AMAZING) and MANY other things (DARE and V their Blends) anywhere from $15 a bottle to $100. TRUST ME ITS WORTH IT.

We hit here whenever we need a break and want a relaxing afternoon. This place would be awesome to check out for photos etc. I would always suggest making an appt as you need it to get into the gate. The winery is quite a drive from the Silverado Trail in Napa but sooooo worth it for the views, the people/staff, and the wine :) They also usually do a lot of open houses where they have free pours and some food (the wife of one of the kids of Delia is a chef and she cooks amazing food!) and also some discounts etc. I would also suggest their cinco de mayo party. roasted pork (whole pig!) and free wines etc. Sooo amazing for something so good.

Check out their website to see when they have these events and head on up to Viader for a nice saturday! :)
