“Good room at a great price near the beach”
Reviewed February 27, 2012

Staff were amazing, especially Stephen. Our room (204) was 2 queen beds in the back which tended to be dark with no view of the ocean. I would suspect the front rooms would be very nice. The room was big and clean with standard amenities and free wifi. The train didn't really bother us. We did watch the sunset from the hotel's second floor public balcony and it was quite lovely.

Thank you for allowing us to serve you during your visit. Our rooms on the front side of the hotel do have rare unobstructed spanning Pacific Ocean views where the sunset can be viewed from the comfort of your own private balcony. We are grateful for your appreciation of our customer service and are always happy when can be a part of making a stay just a bit more special.

Staff is just so remarkably friendly, attentive and kind at this hotel. They are a big part of why we recently intended to book again at the end of our cross-country trip to move to San Clemente. We traveled with our dog this time and pets are not allowed on the property, however we will be recommending the hotel to friends.

If you can handle the train across the street (and the inevitable horn blowing), this is a great location with a lovely, unobstructed view - close to the ped bridge and running trail, Rte 1 access is in front of the hotel, good restaurants close by. The rooms are lovely, hot tub is well-maintained and staff are happy to give you towels to use there. Parking is free, the courtyard with music and waterfall is just precious and breakfast is available in the mornings. Coffee is good:-)

Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Choose an upper suite - we heard they have fireplaces! The lower level rooms are lovely, too.

Me and my girl stayed there last July for three days. I love that its clean, nice rooms, great friendly staff and we had rooms facing the highway and beach. the Garden area is awesome. And everything is close. I want badly to go back and will. We got to see the awesome fireworks display on July 4th I love that is is not alot of rooms and so quiet. And the deck rocks to hang at!!

Room Tip: love the rooms facing the ocean, little louder but way worth it!!

We had a large room facing the ocean which was very clean and the staff was courteous, attentive and welcoming. The one thing I regret is that I didn't read that. like all the hotels in this strip, we were on the Pacific Coast Highway, across a train track - yes we had a beautiful view of the sea but sitting out on our porch (which of course raises the price of the room) was something we had really looked forward to but couldn't really enjoy because of the noise from the street. We have stayed in Laguna Before but thought we could get closer to the ocean in Dana Point - we did but it didn't really add to our enjoyment. The hotel is very nice on its own but I wouldn't pay the premium for the balcony or ocean view again.

Room Tip: Facing ocean is nice but may not be worth the premium because of Pacific Coast Highway (noisy) and t...

Even though the view on the sea was only partial, the price offered at the very last minute was a very good value - the room huge and the service very nice. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Partial view is really partial but literally across the road from the sea so no complain.

This hotel was very very ungracious about rescheduling my stay. More than 24 hours ahead of time I contacted them and tried to reschedule. They said fine but they would charge me 100% of my rate. All sorts of hotels (regardless of posted "policy") would have accommodated me. I travel a lot, and have been so accommodated by many hotel chains. But this "Best Western" would not. Not so classy of them.
I will never stay here again. And I will tell my entire group (a club soccer team) not to book here.

Thank you for your review and your comments. Unfortunately we do have to hold firm to our cancel or change policy when a request is made within the binding period. Please understand that as a hotel we guarantee to hold the room for you and will not sell it to anyone else, even if we are able to receive a higher price. In turn it is only fair that the guest guarantees to arrive for the room or give the hotel a fair opportunity to resell the room in case the guest cannot arrive. Our apologies for not being more flexible with your cancellation, but if there was no policy in place for reservations, there would not be a reason to book reservations or for us to guarantee you a room at the rate in which was agreed.

This hotel has gorgeous garden decor outside, the rooms are spacious with a mini kitchen, and the ocean view is spectacular! The staff is extremely attentive. The beach is right across the street, and there are several restaurants within walking distance.

The Coast Highway is quite busy during the day, and the trains are right there (the whistle blows right in front of the hotel because there is a crossing nearby). It is a little annoying, but the view from the balcony makes it all worthwhile. I didn't notice the trains after about 10:30 at night.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.
