My wife and I spent 5 days here and loved it. We had an Oceanfront suite on the Concierge Club floor (4th floor). From the first moment until the last, we received friendly, attentive service from every employee. Watching the surf from our balcony was awesome. This is an older property but exquisitely maintained. As we drove the coastline and saw other hotels and resorts, we were repeatedly reassured that we had made the right selection.

Room Tip: Oceanfront. If your budget can take it, stay on the Concierge level. We had room 4010 and it was p...

My boyfriend and I went for the night, to celebrate each other. The check in was good, the room was Ok. I guess I was expecting more out of the Ritz Carlton. We had a corner room with somewhat of an ocean view. Right outside our balcony we had this very large tree that was covered in spider webs. We did not want to have the balcony doors open in fear that a spider would get blown in, but we also wanted to listen to the waves. I would probably not stay there again, not even for the night.

Room Tip: make sure there are no trees out side of your room. maybe request a higher floor

We stayed at the property for 5 nights in early July around the 4th of July weekend. I booked the American Express Platinum Fine Hotels and Resorts which gave us 1 night free and allowed us to check out at 4pm - which meant we had 6 full days on the property which was fantastic. We have 3 young kids - at the time aged 3, 4 and were looking for a luxurious but ultra family friend beach property. Our priorities were good weather, a great beach with easy access, and good food. We found all at the Ritz. We had booked an ocean front room with a fire pit, but decided to upgrade to a suite upon check in. The assigned suite did not have a direct ocean view, so I asked to switch to another room, which we did our second day. We ended up having a corner second floor direct ocean view suite in the main pool side of the building which I think is the better side as it's closer to most things. The room was amazing - great view, great fittings, and a wonderful amount of space - totally worth the upgrade.

We went to the beach every day. It is a little bit of a trek from the hotel down the side of the cliff, but it's breathtakingly beautiful and you can ride a golf cart up and down if you need to. At the base of the cliff, there's a Ritz service desk which supplies beach amenities (umbrellas, kids toys, chairs etc.). The kids who work there are super helpful and friendly and carried everything and set it up on the beach for you.

The beach itself is very nice. It is a public beach. The water is chilly - so not really for swimming, but the kids had a great time running in and out and building sand castles. I tried boogie boarding - the hotel supplies boards.

We used the hotel gym every day. It had good equipment and breathtaking views of the ocean.

We ate at all the restaurants - even the formal fine dining restaurant was very amenable to hosting families with young kids. Even though our kids are young, we like to expose them to different experiences and foods.

We ate on property for almost all our meals which I recommend. The times we wandered out were less successful.

We initially thought we'd do a day at Disney, but decided to just relax at the hotel for the entire stay.

At almost all points, the staff provided excellent service. We had a few glitches the first day, but on balance, it was excellent.

Pool service was very attentive too.

Room Tip: Get a direct ocean front room - it's worth it. The suites are worth the upgrade.

Making sure our younger guests have a very memorable experience is a priority for us. We enjoy making them smile and relax just as much as our older ones. It sounds like you fully explored our property and surroundings. Did you get a chance to visit the Eco Adventure Center? If not, please add that to your agenda during your next visit. You will not be disappointed! We hope to welcome you back soon.

Location is not always everything when it comes to a hotel location. But when a hotel has a great location and then provides outstanding service and a top shelf experience then it's a winner. The Ritz at Laguna Niguel (Dana Point) California is just such a place. The lobby is stunning, the amenities fantastic and the view over Salt Creek Beach to Catalina Island in the distance is breathtaking. Our room was outstanding with a big comfortable king bed. The bathroom was nicely laid out and had double sinks which is great for a long time married couple. The on-site restaurants and coffee bar were very good and the convention amenities were excellent for the conference I was attending. The staff was attentive and the turn down service one of the best I've experienced. It was timely, consistent and always replenishing towels or other necessities as needed. The property has great access to the beach as well as many wonderful sights nearby, including the old Mission at San Juan Capistrano. Just an excellent property.

What a location, high atop the beach, with gorgeous views at sunset. Staying oceanfront is worth it, and you can leave your sliding door open day and night, and let the sounds of the surf sing you to sleep. One of the best hotel experiences in a long time!

Attentive staff helped with valeting the car, and provided us with bottled water and fruit each time we left the hotel to explore on our own.

Clean room, fridge built into the wall, double sinks in the marble bathroom, closet had dresser built in. A great property, and fun to watch the surfers who were out each day. Make the time to walk the beach in each direction, but especially to the left as you face the beach.

Enjoy...you surely will!

Room Tip: Pay extra to stay on the ocean side - you can leave your deck door open all night (no bugs!) and enj...

Stayed for 4 nights while attending a conference in LA. This hotel is absolutely wonderful.

Set high on the hills/cliffs, the views of the beach and ocean are incredible!

The patio and walking paths down to the ocean are a great walk in the evenings while watching the sunset. The patio bar is the perfect seating area with fire places to keep you warm and the setting romantic.

The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and are absolutely exceptional at their jobs.

A few critiques....

1) Rooms with a view of the ocean are more expensive ($100/night), and most of the rooms do not look outward, but rather look inward toward the pools.

2) Overall he restaurants are "ok"... I've spent time in comparable locations on the coast that had more variety and choices in restaurants.

3) The hotel campus layout is a bit too centralized for me, again in other comparable locations on the coast, the restaurants, pools, and patios were spread out more and so you found yourself enjoying different views and areas of the hotel, versus the Ritz which seemed to have me walking the same paths and visiting the same areas all of the time. Very centralized.

All in all, this is a an incredible hotel, with magnificent views! If you don't live on the West Coast, staying here will make you seriously consider relocating!

Room Tip: Try to negotiate a room overlooking the ocean for a reasonable price.

Dear hotel managers/owners of the world: Please find it in your budget to stay one night in this place. We want you to be better. THIS is better.

Thank you,
Weary travellers

Honestly, there is nothing to say, perfection on every level. Situated on a beautiful bluff above a picturesque beach, amazing service and amenities, quiet rooms.... The only thing (a very small, minor thing) that we wished for was the ability to rent a car for day trips while here. But other than that, great.
