We just spent a 4 day weekend at the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. It was wonderful. Service was top, food was great and rooms are perfect. We had a deluxe ocean facing suite which had a balcony. It was everything one wants in a deluxe room. Slight problem getting WIFI (the front desk didn't know what WIFI was??!!!) but otherwise we would highly recommend this spot.

Expensive with sub-par service. On-site dining sucks. Rooms are outdated. Staff acts like you work for them. Spend your money somewhere else. You will be much happier. We stayed there in July 2012. We asked permission to have a local photographer take family pictures while we were there and the management acted like we had just [--] on the lobby floor. The staff is is full of [--] and it is obvious the second you set foot on the property. Don't waste your money.

The views are extraordinary (a L-o-n-g beach with surfers in the distance) and the staff is amazingly responsive and helpful, and exceptionally professional. (if there were a service employee Olympics, these people would rank on top!) We were housed on the Executive floor,(special key to get in)-operated -almost like a cruise ship(but with better service) with small platters of food served nearly around the clock-- where the service , if possible ,was even better. (If you want to entertain clients, you can bring them up here, but at a cost of $50 a person-but you will have a great meeting.
Note; we were given a suite , but facing the courtyard, not the ocean, so we couldn't hear the surf..There are plenty of places to sit and listen however, both inside and outside.

Room Tip: Ask for one with an ocean view, so you can hear the surf. Also, it can be quite a walk to your room...

This is really an outstanding hotel. The locations on the cliffs is gorgeous. The staff are very friendly. The decor and specifically the floors are outstanding. The restaurants are really great. Siting at Raya or 180 with the amazing views is something to be cherished.

It's also very nice to walk down to the sandy beach and watch the surfers. We will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Get an Ocean View Room

The hotel has beautiful views, well-kept grounds and an excellent location with easy access to the beach (short walk down a somewhat steep hill or catch a cart ride down/up). Oberst06's review put it very well that the service is welcoming and friendly without being obsequious. The first bellman we interacted with recognized us throughout our stay and was always pleasant but never too much. The valet parking was flawless and the person at the outside valet desk recognized us by name by the second day in a relaxed manner without it being a gimmick. Good American hotels sure do service well, and this one might be the best yet. Also echo Oberst06's view that the rooms are very good, but some upgrades might be in order, and in particular, it would be great to lose the carpet in the room, but that is really judging it against a scale of perfection. The essentials were all excellent: comfortable bed, bathroom was spotlessly clean, the room was virtually sound proof and there were copious towels too. We stayed for three nights in October and had a pool side room. To our eyes it is difficult to think that the ocean-side basic rooms would be significantly better than the pool-side rooms, but we did not stay in them. The lawn and the lawn chairs with the ocean view were close at hand for us. We would be very happy to return. Truly an excellent American luxury hotel.

Room Tip: We had a basic pool side room and it was excellent.

The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel by far is the most spectacular hotel. Stunning views, the impeccable service, and the beauty of this hotel makes this a must see. The website for this property is true to what you see when you arrive. The entrance, the lobby, and the views from the picture windows throughout the hotel are simply breathtaking. The Market Place is a wonderful location for coffee, pastry, candy, or just relaxing. 180Blue provides spectacular views of the sunset. There are plenty of locations throughout the hotel to just sit, relax, and enjoy the hotel and the view. Our oceanfront view room with a balcony exceeded our expectations and provided priceless memories of our stay. If you are a golfer, let the Ritz Carlton plan your ultimate golf get-a-way at Monarch Golf Links which is right across the street. Dana Point and Laguna Beach are lovely quaint towns to walk around, shop, eat, and enjoy the spectacular views and to enjoy the ocean. John M.

I've stayed here five or six times over the past 15 years and have always enjoyed myself. The location, as others have noted, is among the more beautiful spots in the USA, and I suspect it would be easy to enjoy while sleeping in a pup tent. This is clearly more than a tent, however, and there are expectations one has in staying at a R-C property; as with previous visits, my expectations were met. The staff are uniformly welcoming and friendly without being obsequious, and any request I made was responded to promptly. The rooms are well-furnished and comfortable, although as the title of the review implies some upgrades might be in order, notably the carpet. The hotel has noted that it is addressing this. I should mention that I arrived very early in the morning yet they were able to make a room available; they took it one step further when I followed the bellman in the opposite direction from where my meetings were being held and I commented that I'd like to be closer: he immediately called registration and they moved me to a room on the other side of the hotel. The catering and banquet service were excellent as to service and adequate as to food. Regarding eating in the hotel on my own, I would say that the view overwhelms the food and that the latter, while good, was of small portion and somewhat pricey, as were the wines by the glass. I solved the wine problem by drinking the truly excellent sangria which is featured in a video on the hotel's website and must be tried, although I can speak only to the red version. All in all, my stay was great, and the only nits to pick were the ones mentioned earlier. I might not have mentioned them at another hotel chain not of this calibre, but when you hold yourself out to be superlative that's the standard by which you're judged.

Room Tip: I usually stay in garden rooms which are perfectly adequate, especially on the ends of the wings Oce...
