I travel all over the world and stay at some of the big name hotels; The St Regis and Ritz Carlton in Monarch Bay to drop names. Big lobbies, hustle & bustle to get to your room and the air of wealth and pretense permeates these resorts. They have their place.
On my last visit to Dana Point I discovered the BLI... A quaint B&B overlooking the Dana Point harbor with well appointed rooms, cozy touches such as quality chocolates, cheeses, cookies to go with the fireplace in your room. It's quiet, in walking distance to a number of nice eateries in Dana Point and you can actually park your car without the fanfare/ritual of a typical large hotel: A breath of fresh air.
In the morning you can take a nice quiet stroll (or run) along the scenic cliffs down to the harbor and come back for a great complimentary breakfast with the warmth of a wood burning fireplace and a fabulous ocean view.
Checking in as checking out is a polite and professional transaction with a local touch... You get to leave with your blood pressure about ten points lower... and about 50% more cash in your wallet... its a bargain. They should be charging more.More
