We didn't get to see any whales since our tour was at the end of whale season but speeding along with the dolphins was amazing! We would do it again if we lived closer!

“Only Dolphins Galore”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Was not impressed with this trip. We were instructed to arrive by 1pm for the 1:30 tour. I read you can purchase sandwiches and snacks on their deck before the tour, so we arrived around 12:30 to have lunch beforehand. Well, Capt. Dave never showed up until 2pm; said he was caught in traffic. Once the boat took off a photographer started going around asking if you would like your picture taken for $20....I thought, why?? The only pictures we wanted on this trip were our own shots of a possible whale sighting! Dave took us to the dolphin site, where we saw many dolphins, they were all around the boat. It was nice to watch them swimming along and jumping from time to time around the boat and in the distance. I like seeing dolphins.... but it seemed like we were at the dolphin site a little too long. We could see Dave trying to locate a whale with his binoculars with no luck. Although, after a few minutes, he stated that someone contacted him and said there was a whale a few miles away, that he would venture out there, as long as it was okay with everyone on board. So we started moving at a faster clip. Several minutes later he said the whale is now moving further away, so we had to turn back since we were running out of time. We understand there's no guarantee of seeing whales, but I thought he spent way too much time with the dolphins. After we docked back at the pier he brought out his books & dvd and started with the sales pitch, which to me is always a real turn off after an excursion; in this case whether we seen whales or not.

“Captain Daves Whale Watching Tour - Unbelievable!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Having heard, from more than one individual, that Captain Daves was our best bet at the possibility of seeing a whale we booked a day trip on September 27th. We heard from another couple that they went on Tuesday of the same week and were lucky enough to see not only a blue whale but a great white. Being the skeptic that I am, I figured no way will we be so lucky to see the whales again. We started out a bit late Thursday morning due to a late arrival, couldnt believe that the ship waited on someone, pretty impressive. The waters couldn't have been more beautiful and calm. Captain Tom said that they were perfect conditions. We caught a sea lion lounging on his back as we were headed out. After maybe an hour, I am probably not accurate, we were able to see some Risso Dolphins, a shy, white dolphin according to the very accurate description from our Captain. We follwed them for a bit to try and get some pictures then learned that there was a group of Common Dolphins up ahead. This group was much friendlier and allowed for some great photography and underwater viewing in the pods, very cool to watch them under water. We were already at the time that we should be heading back and Captain Tom announced that we would be heading out to the area that some Blue Whales had been spotted the evening before. Apparently Captain Tom was going to do his best to ensure a whale viewing. As we moved around the area it wasn't looking good, perfect conditions but nothing in sight. Captain Tom said as we were heading back that we would move in a bit closer towards shore along the trek the whales had been making back and forth. He told us to keep looking as you never know what you might see. It couldn't have been more then 10 minutes later when we was called and notified that the blue whales had been seen by another boat. We headed out that direction and sure enough the most beautiful sight. A blue whale coming gracefully out of the water and splashing back down. Quite a big fin! It turned out to be a large female with a smaller, frisky male following her. We followed them for quite a bit of time to get the best view possible. At one point, Captian Tom stated that this female was cooking at a pretty good speed. He advised that she obviously was not interested in her aggressive suiter. All in all Captain Tom extended our tour two hours! He was all about us and bringing us the best experience he could... and that he did. An experience we will cherish!

“No whales, but”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

I had been tracking Capt. Dave's website for over a month having made the discovery that Blue Whales are a big attraction there. I chose this tour because of the work/marine conservation which is an integral part of his work. Of course I was disappointed...having traveled all the way from Wisconsin to see the whales, but knowing they are there (somewhere) made me feel a little better. I hope to go back again.
