Even though the weather was foggy our Captain was very accommodating and upbeat. We ended up finding a Blue Whale which was very cool. Later we saw a huge pod of about 100 dolphins which Captain Tom thought was small, having seen pods as large as 1000! What a great trip. We ended up getting 2 for 1 tickets, $55 for 2 for over a 3 hour cruise. Eat before you get there and bring your own drinks as they have none on the boat. They do have sandwiches and bottled sodas and such at the store but just a small selection. They also have a plexiglass viewing area at the front of each of the catamaran hulls. Very nice. Overall great trip and good value.

Did not see any whales but saw dolphins and had a great time The boat was smooth, roomy and with 50 people on board we had lots of room. Captain was well informed and told us lots about sea life in Dana Point and the different Whales and dolphins in the area.
WE did the 12 noon sailing on one of the hottest days of September, on the water was the place to be!
We highly recommend Capt Dave's trips.

Have been on many dolphin watches, including Florida and Hawaii. This is truly the best! Saw hundreds of dolphin, 2 blue whales (not really the season), but that's ok. The dolphins, sea lions and the 2 whales were awesome. We hung at the very front of the boat, our feet got wet, who cares, tons of dolphin swam right under our noses! They are amazing to watch! Seriously folks, you will not be disappointed. Every age from kids to senior citizens will love it, believe us! Have an awesome adventure, wish we could join you!

I went out on Capt Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari September 8th. The excursion prior to our was late because they saw a whale, making our trip about 45 minutes behind. A couple people decided to cancel and come back another time, we did not and I was happy for it. The crew took us out to the cusp of newport and dana point which was about an hour ride.
Along the way I saw some sun fish but nothing was as great as seeing a blue whale. We got to see 2 cycles of the whale and it was amazing!! It even got up close to the boat and stayed up longer than usual. The crew was incredibly knowledgeable and overall great trip. Would go again if it weren't for my seasickness :)

I'm a marine biologist and I've been on whale watching trips all over the globe. Captain Dave's is one of the best operations I've experienced. Their staff is outstanding, the boat is exceptional (underwater viewing pods are UNREAL) and their knowledge and concern for wildlife and conservation issues is obvious in everything they do. I cannot recommend them highly enough. You will have a wonderful time, no matter what time of year you go. Just be aware that there are seasons of wildlife, so if you've got a favorite species in mind, do your homework or check Capt. Dave's website for wildlife calendars.
