“Wonderful, memorable dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

We celebrated our anniversary here And everyone made us feel very special and welcomed. Our table had yellow rose petals and a poem on it. All our servers mentioned Happy Anniversary. The food was great - we had lots of fun ordering small dishes for appetizers (must get the lobster tacos, full of real lobster chunks and pinto bean sauce, held together with small clothes pins; oysters were delicious) and the lobster salad had warm spinach (yum). The view was perfect (like a photo) and afterwards we walked down to the beach. Our waiter, Joel, was very caring and professional. He knew I did not like spicy food and was always careful about pointing out if the food was spicy. We will be back soon.

“Great food, service, and views”

Great food (lobster rolls amazing), best wait staff I've experienced in a long time, and best views of Laguna. Don't miss it!

“Surprisingly excellent for hotel food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

Raya is the restaurant at the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point. I've had some miserable, very expensive hotel food but this is an exception. Beautifully executed (eg lobster tacos held together with tiny clothes pegs), clever recipes with outstanding ingredients. Absolutely delicious. I didn't pay so can't say whether it was good value for money (I suspect not, having perused the pricing on the menu) but the view is spectacular and the food is well worth it.

“Good but not as good as the ratings may suggest”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

Okay, perhaps I'm being a little harsh, but I had really high expectations for this place. The restaurant does overlook the beach -- fantastic views before sunddown. After sundown you are looking out at complete darkness, and as you look around the restaurant you realize you aren't really in a dedicated space, it's kind of a weird wide hallway with a weird metal wall used to create a seperate space from the coffee bar and hallway that connects the hotel guest rooms with another part of the hotel. The food was FINE -- not great, but fine. The menu was pretty much like a dozen similar restaurants in the area.

And the service was spotty for a number of reasons. The kitchen was pokey. I also thought that for top dollar, the servers should remotely know who ordered what food. It's a little weird to be at the Ritz and the waiter has to ask "who gets the ahi tuna?" Again, I am totally cool with that a mid-range restaurant but not one that purports to be upscale. We stayed at the hotel and breakfast there twice. Breakfast was good (didn't mess up the eggs) but again, they forgot the toast, then they brought the wrong toast. Coffee didn't get refilled. Again, nothing epic but worth noting.

We also ate at the restaurant down the street at the St. Regis -- that was amazing and about as expensive.

“Romantic Breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

We couldn't afford $600.00 a night, but we could afford a beautiful romantic breakfast! The view was simply breathtaking as we watch the surfers surf on the crystal blue waves. After we ate our wonderful breakfast we took a stroll on the white sandy beach!
