“Noisy Rooms”
Reviewed May 22, 2010

This is a beautiful hotel but the rooms were very noisy. Granted I may have just been on a bad floor but the patrons were yelling in the hallways, every flush of the toilet, shower and hair dryer could easily be heard, and every room service pickup came with a crashing of plates and silverware as if they were being dumped into a bin. In addition, a maid opened my room door without even a knock. Thank god I had the additional security bold latched which stopped the door from opening completely.

My wife and I checked in on May 3rd for a two night stay.We have stayed at most of the SPG St. Regis properties worldwide. Without a doubt this property was the finest.Excellent restaurants, spa and outstanding staff...They worried about every detail..
As a SPG Platinum member I received outstanding extra benefits.....

Four people in a suite and one person handicapped. The room was perfect for handicap access. The personnel are a joy, they are friendly, helpful and always willing to offer a helping hand. In room dining was always on time, butler service was very helpful. The room was great, clean, comfortable for a one week stay. Even the trundle beds were extremely comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel.

I am a SPG Platium Member. I travel about 100 nights a year primarily for business and have seen quite a few hotels. The St. Regis Monarc Beach is one of the best around.

We have stayed at the St. Regis before and truly love the hotel and staff. That is what keeps bringing us back. Here's why:

Customer Service - The staff is incrediable. Everyone at the hotel has such a great work attitude and customer service training. I celebrated my 49th birthday during our stay. I received balloons, desserts, wine, and gifts. It was more than anyone would expect for this type of acknowledgment. We loved our butler service too. It includes free coffee each morning, shoe shine, and a couple of shirt pressings. Wilson the butler was wonderful.

Location - Even though the hotel is not technically on the beach, the grounds are beyond beautiful. The pools are heated at the perfect tempature and picture perfect. The oceanview from the lobby is breathtaking. To get to the beach you must take a six passenger electric car ride (takes about 5 minutes). It's not a problem at all and in a way it adds a uniqueness to the stay. We have visited both the Ritz and Montage Hotels (the only other comparible high end hotels in the area) close by and prefer the St. Regis.

Rooms - We were upgraded to a junior suite upon check-in. The rooms are very spacious and designer perfect. The bathrooms are a marble/tile palace. We did not have an oceanview but still enjoyed our quiet time on the balcony.

Brunch - We were fortunate to be at the hotel on a Sunday. We ate at Motif for the St. Regis famous OC Brunch. It is truly a feast for a king and queen. We stayed there for over 2 hours trying to taste everything and just couldn't find the room to do it. Make sure to order a Bloody Mary (it's extra but worth it). It was one of the best I've ever had. Brunch will cost you $79 per person but well worth it.

Monarch Bay Club - This club is one of the primary reasons the St. Regis is so special. The Monarch Bay Club is only open to hotel guests or club members who pay a $15,000 annual fee. The food is fantastic and the view is priceless. Their bread is outstanding. Go down for happy hour between 5-7pm and enjoy sunset each night. Sheila is the best bartender and makes GREAT drinks. She stays stocked on some unique liquors and she has quite the flair for adding TLC to every drink she makes. Try a pomegranate martini. She offers other vintage drinks too. You'll have a great time there. It's small and very friendly.

As Starwood members we used "cash and points" for our stay. The room cost $150, $25 resort fee, $30 valet cost, and taxes. It was truly a wonderful hotel experience we will remember for years to come.

I spent 4 days at the St. Regis Monarch Beach with colleagues from work. Prior to coming, I was reassured several times both by central reservations and the reservations staff on site that it was a beachfront resort, just steps from the ocean. I was disappointed to learn that this information was outright false, since it was one of the main reasons we chose the resort. Unfortunately, by the time we figured it out, we had already prepaid our reservation and couldn't switch to the actual beachfront property down the road, the Ritz Carlton.

Negatives:
* The bell man who led us to our rooms was careful to point out many features of the resort but failed to mention that we had spa access (to a lovely hot tub and steam room!) that we were even being charged more for. We didn't realize we had access to this until our last day at the resort.
* One of our rooms had smudges on the ceiling and the cd player didn't work. They tried to replace it with another nonworking cd player after i complained.
* The food prices are definitely exorbitant, and we learned that the room service waiters receive almost non of the built in 18% tip and additional service/delivery charge, meanwhile the hotel pays them service wages (below normal minimum wage) so these people are really being taken advantage of. (TIP THEM EXTRA!)
*There was construction during the day making it hard to enjoy sitting by the pool.

Positives:
*Huge rooms, comfortable beds, big bathrooms, lots of towels, and slippers!
*Some of the service staff went over and above to take care of specific needs we had. There was a female concierge who had been there for almost 10 years and was extraordinary.
*Many of the staff seems to have worked there a long time, which speaks well of the management. (Although they are apparently in bankruptcy and now owned by Citibank)
*The beachfront, once you take the 10 min tram ride down there, is lovely.
*The pools are very nice.
*The room service staff went over and above on many occasions to create food that wasn't on the menu.
*They had a special where we got our 4th night free, so it made the experience more affordable.

Stayed here while attending the California Wine Festival. The property is beautiful, the staff quick, attentive, friendly and not pretentious. The food and drinks were very good. Dan, in the salon, gives a great manicure. Spa staff very friendly and genuine. Bell/Valet staff were exceptional. The room is spacious and beds are extremely comfortable. Love the large, deep tub for a relaxing bubble bath.
If you want quiet, book a non-poolside room as this hotel hosts many weddings around the pool and gardens. My colleagues and I had a wonderful stay, and will be back!
