“Unique property”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

The thing that stands out about this property is the layout. The main gust rooms are below the lobby area and flank it on either side. Most of the guest rooms are below the lobby level due to the hillside entrance to the hotel. It has all the usual St Regis quality rooms and service. If you want to go to the beach, it's a healthy walk down the hill, which isn't marked very well or the valet guys will drive you down in a golf cart.

My wife and I were here for a 3 day meeting with several hundred other people, and it was great. Excellent service, good value for money, no glitches at all. Great location, lovely room [121, very quiet]. Great meals. Nice walk to the beach, were there were lots of happy families enjoying the surf.

Room Tip: I liked Rm 121, on the ground floor and facing away from the pool, so it was VERY quiet when we were...

Dear ksmithderm -
Thank you for your recent stay and your kind words about the resort! And yes we agree sometimes a quiet garden or resort view room is just the ticket to a nice quiet stay.

This hotel personifies elegance, in a southern California maner. There is nothing I would change at this property and not one experience that is less than amazing. You simply must visit this hotel.

From the time we entered the property there was the feeling of being transported to a slower time. The valet was amazing and took exception care of our GT2. The lobby is fabulous, and the desk staff is always attentive and very helpful. The butler helped set up our suite and we were free to enjoy the sunset. The beach club is easily acceptable by the tram and surfing lessons were great. The rooms we have had all had fabulous views, and the Sunday bruch is the standard from which others are judged. Sitting on a balcony, enjoying great food, looking out over manicured grounds into the Pacific, all in all experiences that need to be repeated. We have visited here several times and always five stars from me.

Traveled with hubby to trade show and was fortunate to stay in this fabulously beautiful hotel! The views from the upper deck towards the water were wonderful, especially with a Bloody Mary...LOL.
They had a walking path that took you down towards the beach and was a nice break from working in the hotel room. We will be back.

Okay, so I'm trying to release my "inner-travel-blogger-wannabe" here. This resort is located right on the cliff of Dana Point beach and is just magnificent! It features that 5-star, white-glove service right from the registration area. With all of the amenities, private beach access, and a host of other services, this place gives The Ritz-Carlton, of Dana Point, a run-for-their-money!

Heard so much of the St. Regis, brought the Mrs last weekend for our 15th Anniversary. Somehow managed to come here on the only two cloudy, rainy summer days Dana Point has seen in probably 10 years. Although bummed out, we made the most of it.

Valet was very cool and took care of the car and bags. Greeted with Champagne upon entering the lobby, check-in was a breeze and was whisked off to our Ocean View Room. Good space in the room, stocked fridge, ton of amenities.

Bathroom is beautiful. Had a soak tub, sep shower, dual sinks. And a huge thing for us. EXCELLENT TOWELS! Not cheap, thin crap. But nice fluffy, comfy towels and wash clothes. Such an understated amenity.

Had a private balcony which we spent a lot of time on.

Bed was ridiculously comfy. We have a temperpedic mattress at home and are spoiled, but this was a great couple of nights sleep.

The main pool is gorgeous and the staff is quick to set you up on chairs the second you walk in. A child had an accident in the kids pool so it needed to be closed, which then forced all the kids into the main pool which was a bummer as our kid free weekend was interrupted.

We hit Motif for the first night's dinner. Food was good. Had to send back the steak which was well well well done as opposed to medium rare. They were on it though. Had something out quickly to replace it.

Went off property for the 2nd night's dinner...

The lobby bar and patio is excellent. Great tables outside overlooking the pool (and ocean I presume when it's not raining).

After our 2nd day at the rainy pool, came back to our room to find a bottle of champagne being chilled and some chocolates for our Anniversary. Awesome surprise and much appreciated and quickly consumed!

2 nitpicks:
$70 for 2 days of parking doesn't sit right. I don't want to hear "well you are at a resort what do you expect?" I'm already springing for the resort and location, help a brother out on the parking.

If you are going off property and do not want to drive, make sure you double check there are cabs. Was told there was a cab and got down to the valet and waited 20 minutes and was late for our dinner reservation.

Having said that, the staff is super friendly and attentive almost to the point where you are like "They can't be that nice can they?" The property reminds you of Hawaii and has the amenities to back it up.

We could've stewed about the crap weather, but the beautiful property and cool staff wouldn't let us. Thank you St. Regis for a much needed relaxing weekend. Will be back again soon!

The St. Regis is a beautiful resort, with luxurious grounds and beautiful facilities. I am here for a meeting and it was well-organized, the food at our private events was great, and overall I would rate this a five-star resort property . . . IF the service could be brought up a notch. I downgraded it to four stars because of a number of experiences with service where it just wasn't at the level expected for this kind of expense. For example, at our dinner party last night (about 200 people), the server forgot to serve coffee at our table of 8 people. Also, each night they put that wonderful little chocolate on the side table, but they would put only ONE candy there, when we had two people in the room! Lastly, when calling the front desk to ask for help with a room problem, the phone would ring 100 times and no one would pick up. At a 5 star property, calls get answered. There's really no excuse for this. So, while we had a beautiful room and a great view and nice facilities, there were a number of self-inflicted service issues that caused this location to lose a star in our opinion.

Room Tip: Whatever you do, don't get one of those rooms far along the side wings that take forever just to...
