Had a great walk on the beach at sunset with my wife. The southern beaches in the OC truly are postcard perfect.

I live in Dana Point and walk the harbor several times a week. The grass areas over the bridge are nice for picnicing while enjoying the sights and sounds the harbor has to offer. While I walk I enjoy watching the giant Blue Herons in their nests, seals on the jetty rocks, numerous grey and white squirells and lately a real treat, dolphin jumping while following the boats out to sea. It is so peaceful and beautiful. One of the last OC beach areas unspoiled by parking meters and crowded streets. Look out for the statue of Richard Henry Dana, turn left and follow the road to the end where the harbor police station is. There are picnic tables and benches to sit and watch all the boating activity. It's where I start my walk. 2.2 miles from there to the yaught club and back.
Bring the family or just relax alone. You will love it!

Walking around everyone was courteous, walking their dogs, walking hand in hand, kissing, hugging and just enjoying life. I thought it was wonderful to visit for the 1st time. The ocean waters are somewhat unpredictable so be careful.

The harbor with it's shops and restaurants, parks, nearby beaches and tidepools and Marine Institute is a perfect pace to enjoy a day/weekend or longer. It's quiet during the week and busier on weekends but never crowded to the point of suffocating. I am not a boat owner but while having a coffee from one of the shops along the walkway I'll dream about which boat I might like to have .

A word of caution; the sun does not always make an appearance. Some days, the marine layer is so heavy that it does not burn off until afternoon (if at all on a few days). Bring a jacket/sweatshirt just in case.

Beautiful harbor. Lots of restaurants and shops to chose from to fit any budget.
Stairs down to sand by Ocean Institute.
