“Tasteless Food”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Food was tasteless. We ordered the basic lunch specials - almond chicken and Kung Pao Chicken and everything seems to be cooked in the same sauce with no flavor. The tea we received was simply hot water and we had to ask for them to add the tea. Chili sauce is not provided you have to ask for it. The fried rice stated very starchy and heavy. My colleague ordered to signature beef noodle soup and had to wait over 25 minutes. We were told later that's standard, they should mention it when you order it. Everyone was done with their meal. After the wait it was decided the soup had no taste just some beef broth and two pieces of beef. The noodles were typical think noodles with no taste. The fortune cookies were burnt. Would not recommend this place at all.

Food was disgusting, restaurant stank, service average. Not the worst place I've been to, but I would not return

“Stay Away”
Reviewed December 30, 2011

Stay away from this place, bad service and bad food.
Yesterday they served us Hot & Sour Soup, which was plainly cold and not edible.
Further, they automatically add 18% tip to any bill, so you have no opportunity to reflect your dissatisfaction by reducing the tip.

“Simple food, good value for money”
Reviewed March 13, 2010

Since it was pretty close to our house in Cupertino, we visited Hong Fu a few times, and didn't think too much of it. The service was average, the food was average, the ambiance was average, but the prices were low compared to other restaurants in Cupertino. So it seemed good value for money.

Our typical orders were the sauteed vegetables, the chicken in black bean sauce, etc. The crowd was mostly Chinese, though there were about 10-15% of tables occupied by Caucasians. We were the only South Asian couple.

However, one day, we say the waiters take a large bowl of soup to a Chinese table. It smelled and looked delicious, there was nothing mentioned in the well-thumbed menu. When we asked our favorite waiter, he said that it was a beef stew. I decided to try it.

Since that day, I've become a fan of Hong Fu, and the soup. It was delicious, filling (a meal by itself), simple and healthy. Apparently it was made with tomatoes, beef, flat noodles, onions, spring onions and a few other ingredients, but had no MSG.

Now, every time I'm in Cupertino, I make it a point to go to Hong Fu and ask for the beef stew.
