“Nothing special, not really worth returning”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

After a recommendation by a friend, my wife and I chose to have lunch at Sage. She ordered the Raw Kale, Avocado and Apple salad, and I ordered their French toast. The salad was just ok, reasonably fresh, but did not offer the kinds of flavors and textures of the best salads. The French toast had a good taste, but the bread was tough and chewy, rather unpleasant to eat. This was just one visit, but not the kind of experience that makes you want to return.

Sage offers an outdoor patio next to the driveway/parking area, and indoors seating. The atmosphere is a bit cold inside, with a cavernous warehouse feeling. The patio is not particularly charming.

“Eccentric, Tasty, Magical Outdoor Evening Dining”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

I know great Reuben sandwiches having lived in Ohio for while. However, the Sage Organic Vegan Bistro version of a Reuben was beyond tasty. The thinly sliced tempeh (Indonesian style seasoned soy), rye bread & sauce were incredible. But the deep fried cabbage, for an extra $1.50, added a crunch and flavor that makes this sandwich better than any I’ve had in Cleveland. The only downside was the $13.50 price. I have not been to the 1st Sage Organic Vegan Bistro, in the Echo Park part of Los Angeles, but new location @ 4130 Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City, CA 90230, is impressive. It just opened, but it had a packed, eccentric crowd, the night we went there. The inside dining is quite unusual with a 20’ high ceiling height in a rustic, farm warehouse style building. The outdoor tables have a giant olive tree accompanied with the magical illumination of strings of tiny white lights everywhere. Our sassy waitress with short shorts & crazy hose, knew the menu well. They close @ 11 pm Thurs-Sat & RSVP are accepted for parties of 6 or more. Overall, we were besides ourselves.
