“Great spot for dinner and friends, huge wine selection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2010

I recently checked out Akasha at a friend's recommendation on a Saturday night. It was pretty full when we arrived at 8:30 and after sampling the food, I can see why. The menu contains a mix of upscale comfort food (mac and cheese with gruyere and bread crumbs) and more sophisticated CA cuisine (lamb gnocchi, sea bass, seared tuna). It's a bit more trendy than romantic, in terms of ambiance.
One of the most impressive aspects of this restaurant is its 40 or so wines, many of which were unusual, available by the glass. Alas, we fell in love with a Cote du Rhone early and just got a bottle, but I will be back to sample more.
To cap off the evening, Akasha has a wide selection of delicious desserts-- I especially recommend the pumpkin cheesecake and the kahlua chip ice cream.

“DO NOT SUPPORT AKASHA - HORRID SERVICE”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2010

I recently went to Akasha with 2 friends for dinner. I was anxious to try it as I had heard good things about the food. Once seated, it took the waitress 20 MINUTES to take our drink order, then after sitting there for 40 MORE MINUTES, our server never returned but continually passed our table. Our table was right in front of a side door to the patio where every time the door opened, a hugh 'whoosh' of cold wind came blasting in. The owner, an extremely arrogant cocky sob, assured us that the door would be locked and would remain so. However, the wait staff continued to unlock/open the door, with total disregard about any of the customers concerns about the cold wind. We left and went to Kay & Dave's, which I HIGHLY recommend over Akasha anytime.

Outstanding veggie (i.e., black lentil-pumpkin seed) burger even if you're a meat lover -- and sweet potato fries to die for. Based on just one meal, 4 stars, but I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.
