Stunning setting in the valley of Doone, quite off the beaten track. We came here on the recommendation of friends who had stayed last year. Its a good location, within 10 miles of Lynton/Lynmouth for shops, restaurants, playground, seaside, also near Minehead. Campsite is quite large, runs alongside river which is quite fast/noisy in places, which may influence where you want to pitch your tent (we found the sound quite relaxing in the day, but it seemed louder at night when we were trying to sleep!). River was roughly fenced off, so little ones need keeping an eye on. There is a shop and tearoom on site which could be quite handy, it was useful for us to buy logs for the campfire but prices are on the more expensive side. The facilities were basic, and not clean in all honesty. There was a mop and bucket outside the toilets that looked like wasn't used all that regularly. Various mouldy scourers scattered the sides of the washing-up area. There is a fridge/freezer there which is useful, they have seen better days I think but they work which is the main thing. The showers work on a fuel-powered generator which the owner would frequently turn off to save energy costs, this was no real hassle though. To be honest, the negatives are outweighed by the positives; it is a stunningly beautiful spot and it was perfect for our first family camping holiday, and we managed a few days of sunny weather too. They offer take-away food which we had on the day of arrival, it was a little pricey for the small offering we received. There is a shop there too, stocked with camping equipment and other items. The owner was very friendly and we would recommend this site to others without hesitation.
