The most wonderful "accidental find" of our last minute " no plans trip". What a great place!!! The people were so real and down to earth, so friendly. Rooms were unique and beautiful. The bar was authentic western and comfortable. The food was fresh and very well prepared.
It was a surprise find and a great experience. Forrest and Isa are terrific. They made me feel at home very quickly.
This is the antithesis of fake resort hotels where everyone pretends to be something they are not. I have been to Carmel and the surrounding areas many times. This is a mining town in the mountains. Surfing, over priced merchandise, and posers are in short supply here.
I shall return.

The Hotel Jeffery is an amazing value. I had no idea what to expect walking in the door, and was pleasanty surprised. We were greeted by Forest and Isa in the bar. I was invited to have a look at he available rooms, we stayed in 9, it has it's own bath room, a nearby staircase to the dining room, and a beautiful patio. While enjoying drinks in the historic bar, chatting we were introduced to the chef, Jeremy, who is from Oklahoma, which is home to us. It is a small world.
Which leads me to dinner, Tuesday night's special is Mexican food. We had shredded beef tacos and pork chilli verde. I must say it was the best home made authentic meal. Breakfast of coffee, juice, pastries and fruit were brought to our room.
Thumbs up from me, the staff are friendly, the prices were very reasonable, environment was warm, even if it is haunted. It is a museum in itself, did I mention the decor is perfect!
The decor is incredible, everything has a story. Many antiques are displayed to share the history, the staff are more than willing to tell the stories. Forest and Sara(owners) have done a fabulous job maintaining the character of the building as well as the inviting charm making you feel at home.
Recommend to anyone looking for an interesting and enjoyable experience, not just a place to stay!

Had a great evening in the bar with excellent ale and good food - no complaints there. But we did feel that the room had a few failings especially in view of the price we paid ie no bedside table or bedside light, and no hairdryer that I could find. I know the hotel has a wonderful feel about it, but I think today's traveller still needs a few mod cons.

Breakfast was very poor. There was nobody around when we came downstairs but breakfast was laid out in the dining room so we helped ourselves. A truck driver came in asking for directions, so I knocked on the kitchen door but there was no response. We would have liked to see some cereals, fresh milk, jam or marmalde for toast and the opportunity to make tea, not just coffee with powdered milk. We attempted to find someone when we left, but still no luck, so having paid the night before we just left without saying goodbye.

I think the owners should take a trip to Mission Ranch at Carmel to see how "olde worlde" should be done. They have almost got it right, and the lovely young lady behind the bar was a treat and a great asset.

In our search for a dog friendly hotel on the way into Yosemite I came across this hotel. Nice, quaint, historic hotel in a very sleepy Hwy 49 town. Great bar attached, very welcoming to our dogs. A nice place to stay a day or two on your way in to Yosemite via Hwy 120.

Room Tip: None of the rooms are over the bar so no need to worry about loud music invading your sleep but room...

We stayed at the Jeffery on a Friday night in September. It's an old hotel in the cute little 1850 town of Coulterville. The rooms are small and many of them have shared bathrooms, but they are clean, comfortable and there are enough bathrooms on each floor. There are also rooms and two room suites with private baths.
Downstairs is the dining room and the Magnolia Saloon, the oldest operating saloon in California, with the original bar and the backbar. Breakfast in the dining room is included in the rent. Dinner is served in the saloon and also outside on the patio; the food is great.
The managers/owners of the hotel are very nice and friendly. We mostly dealt with Sarah who went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. We highly recommend the Hotel Jefferey.
From Coulterville it is only 52 miles to the Yosemite Park North Entrance.

Wow - I was amazed when we began to walk up the stairs to our room. Upon first arrival, I was fairly skeptic, but the reviews online said that this place was the best in the area. When we saw the decor, we could see why. I was amazed by the interior design and how well done this place is. We stayed in room 17, but they had all the available rooms open so anyone could take a look inside. They are beautiful. The formal dining room is gorgeous, the saloon and its food is delicious, and the hotel is to die for! Now add the idea that it is haunted and you have yourself a spooky, yet relaxing getaway. Being as we live only 100 miles away, we are planning to make this place a regular retreat. We highly recommend it!

Stayed 3 nights over the weekend. Lovely room, friendly staff and great food! We loved the authentic decor and old western bar. Great location to access Yosemite and other local attractions. Forrest (owner) was particularly helpful and made our stay a very enjoyable experience.
