We eat here frequently when in Irvine. The breakfast is a nice one (try the sourdough French toast, but skip the cinnamon and sugar on it for a better flavor of the tasty bread); there's a server there (well, you order at the counter and she brings it to your table) who's astoundingly nice and has a great memory for guests (we're just visitors, but she remembers us from visit to visit even if a few months' separate the visits).
We took family there for a casual dinner in November and, while the service and food were predictably good, the restaurant was chilly in temperature. It turned out the staff had left a door open somewhere in the back but it blew through the dining area and left it really, really cool in there. Not pleasant or relaxing. We asked about the temperature and staff closed the door in the back (we could feel the difference) but in 10 minutes it was left open again and the chill returned.
For burger lovers, the sourdough cheeseburger is fun. Salads are tasty here, too. And, of course you have to bring back a loaf of sourdough for home (yes, we bought one of the turkey-shaped loaves for Thanksgiving!).
