“Friendly, close to everything”

I am a Marriott guy and stay at quite a few residence inn. They are mostly all alike, same room layout, same breakfast, same look ( needs a little updating) what set this stay apart was the staff. Susan, at the front desk (could be the Manager,) was a ball of friendly energy. She made me feel welcome, offered suggestions on restaurants, all with a happy caring attitude. I stay in this area often and I will stay here again. Nice pool, close to everything, quiet, easy freeway access, large rooms kitchen, etc. The kitchen staff and cleaning staff always had a happy
hello and we're friendly. That always helps.
Residence inns are good for families too.

Thanks Susan for adding a smile to my business trip.

Room Tip: 1024 is a penthouse , sleeps 6.

I stayed at the Residence Inn Costa Mesa for one night, to save from driving home after a gala-social in the area. The weekend rate made it an affordable option in the area. The hotel is located near two trendy shopping centers -The Camp and The Lab, and it's close to Orange County Fairgrounds. These are all positive factors.

The porperty is pretty large, and dated. While the insides have been freshened, the outside of the building looks cheap and unkept. This part is tolerable.

The staff are problematic. When I arrived to check in at 5:00 PM on a Saturday night, the front desk was unattended. No one was arround. When two staff did show up they were loud and carried on their personal conversation. When I got attention, there wasn't a greeting. And it was clear that my arrival was an interuption. This type of staff behavior carried forward the next morning. The desk attended was focused on her computer screen when guests arrived to the breakfast area. The lack of attention to guests surprised me.

This is a very nice place to stay. Costa Mesa is pretty close to LA and is not as expensive as LA. Residence inn has very comfortable rooms to stay. They also have some duplex rooms which is ideal if you are big family (more than 3). Rooms are pretty spacious with a kitchen that is fully operational. You have all the kitchen need that you would have at home including a fully functional 4 burner electrical hot plate, a microwave and also a grill. So food is as good as you can cook.
They do have some snacks available in the evenings by the pool. Decent stuff, not much variety though. Breakfast is also decent with a choice of cereals, porridge, Waffles, eggs, and much more.

Overall a very nice place to stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms have pretty much similar views. Nothing very great about the view itself. However the...

Stayed one night here. This property is best suited for families with children, not so much for hardened business traveler. Property appears to have been built in mid 1980s with no so great quality construction to match. Avoid bottom floor units as upstairs occupants every move can be heard.

Was given a studio, despite being Marriott Platinium member (why?) but space was adequate. They have done upgrades on kitchen and bath areas. Kitchen is above average, bath is average and toilet bath combo ridiculously small. Also, green carpet makes me think that i dont want to walk barefoot. Systemic problem and Courtyards and older Residence Inns is old dated carpet, followed closely by beat up sofabeds.

Overall, this property is a winner for families with kids. Good pool and play area at center of property. Good breakfast with lots of space.

Below average accomodation for business travelers, two internet computers but not much else.

Staff from front desk to housekeeping were very friendly! lots of free parking too.

For the price and area, I expected a much nicer hotel. Our first issue was the wireless internet. It didn't work when we arrive and it took a technician over an hour to get us going. We stayed two nights and it quit again on the second day so I just plugged in rather than going through the hassel again. Our door didn't latch good. Twice we came back to our room to find the door unlatched. The room had a musty smell and the air conditioner units outside smelled very bad. There were no extra pillows as I requested and no pillow for the sleeper sofa. The grounds were fine. The breakfast area was very crowded for the size of the facility and the selection of food rather poor. I'd make a different choice next time.

Not the greatest hotel but well presented for an older type property. If you are travelling with children as we were the 2 bedroom unit is a great, and cost effective, selection. Close to South Coast Plaza and the 73 freeway this property gives value for money. Stayed 5 nights and would use again. Rooms are well appointed with a kitchen area, two bedrooms (one is a loft) and a sofa bed in the living area. Free breakfast is good as are evening drinks and snacks - all included in room rate.
