“Good stuff if you ask for it”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

This is a very nice hotel that my husband and I have stayed in over and over. My husband is from Orange County, California and we go out minimally once a year and stay for a week. We like this hotel (obviously as we continue to return), though there are a few kinks. Beginning last November, when the hotel began renting long-term parking space to airline travelers, it has become extremely hard to get a parking space that is not way up - way up - this trip we were on the roof nearly every night as you will be if you come back after 9:00 at night. It's not so bad on the way down, but if you are on the roof it is several floors to walk up the next day to get your car. We feel that the long-term airline parking should be restricted to the top levels of the parking garage so that hotel guests may have the lower levels. The pool area is lovely, but it is also covered with a canopy of palm trees which while beautiful, tend to shed in the pool. I am a lap swimmer and swam twice with the pool very dirty and my bathing suit was filled with tree stuff when I got out. The 2nd morning a gentleman in a suit was there and I asked him if they every considered vacuuming the pool - this was our 3rd day there and it hadn't been done yet. He told me they did it twice a day - ha! Still, after I asked him, the next morning they did vacuum the pool. Also, we had requested a room on a high floor as we always do, but when we arrived they told us we had to be satisfied with the 3rd floor. Well, we were not satisfied and they eventually worked with us to find us a room on a higher floor. If you ask them, they will try to accommodate your requests, but they rarely make the first move. The cost has gone up over the years, but the rooms are nice and we have not had any problems with the air conditioning. All in all, we do recommend this hotel.

We stayed two days to meet with friends. Large pool w/ spa, comfortable lounging area. convenient bar and small restaurant. Parking is separated from hotel but still easy access. Typical resort fee as expected these days. Rooms were large and nicely appointed.

Room Tip: We brought our 24 speed bikes on the trip. It was a weekend and all the commercial businesses were c...

The Marriott Suites Costa Mesa is a great example of a hotel that is exactly what it's supposed to be. The property looks exactly the way it does on the brochure, or rather, on the web site since paper brochures are becoming rare. Located in Southern California's Orange County, and literally adjacent to the South Coast Plaza, this hotel has the perfect location, appearance and amenities to serve its clientele. There are Marritt brands which span the range of hotel experience. From the uber high-end J.W. Marriotts and various boutique "Collection" hotels, all the way down to the motel-style locations which still serve a purpose somewhere; Marriott has something for everyone. This particular hotel offers a great experience for families, business travelers, couples looking for a weekend getaway, or anyone who'd like to stay close to the action without having to be sifled by a crowd. It's not super-lux, but it has comfortable luxuries we've come to take for granted. It gives Marriott a solid footing in this area which has plenty hotels - and gives you a lot for the money.

1. The Room
Rooms are all suites here, we had one with 2 beds. The room was more suitable for a couple with a child, or perhaps an extended family. One single bed, plus a double, plus a sofa bed offered everyone ample privacy and room to sleep comfortably without crowding the space with a roll away cot. Our party was 3 deep, so everyone got what they needed.
the rooms are carefully designed to offer ample seating in the living room, with a fridge and coffee maker. Some 5 star hotels don't offer these simple conveniences that make everyone happy.

A big flat screen TV was available with plenty good channels. The view outside was pleasant and the air conditioning was quiet and powerful.

The bedroom was alittle compact with the 2 beds - luckily they were different sizes, otherwise 2 doubles would have been really cramped. The small TV was included by necessity, but there was really no good position for it. The room is made private by french doors with multiple window panes. The privacy was there - but not overly intimate. Good thing everyone was on good behavior!

The bathroom was a good size, and the stone counter was a nice touch. The bowed shower curtain added modern flair and elegance and the furnishings were up to date.
Of course the one complaint I will always have is the lack of shower gel. There were slightly bigger-than-normal mini soaps available, but any hotel that uses the word "Suites" in its names should simply offer shower gel and ban mini soap. It's a horrible relic from the past that's got to go!

Still, I brought my own gel and the mini soap remained in tact as part of the bathroom's pleasant decor. Fine.

The amenities of the hotel included a beautifully landscaped pool area complete with large pool and jacuzzi. I'm not sure if drink service is offered, but there were plenty attendants keeping the place tidy, a nice touch - especially when groups of teens and families are checked in.

The food (breakfast) was quite wonderful, and included in the price of the room. Great buffet - keep up the good work there.

In short, the good price of this hotel made it especially appealing, with one exception. This hotel requires $21.00 for overnight parking. This is a bit of a rip off since there's a huge mall down the street and no shortage of parking spaces. It amounts to gouging, since the hotel is a part of a large office park with other restaurants and hotels. I know free parking is becoming rare in Southern California - but why not $10 a night, or $7, or even $12. $21 a night indicates the hotel is higher end than it really is.

Bottom line is that the Marriott Suites Costa Mesa is exactly the kind of hotel its name implies. the Marriot Brand is well represented here with a comfortable room, great attention to service and detail, and they leave you wanting to come back for more (minus the parking).
Enjoy!

Room Tip: ask for the type of room you want- they will work hard to get it for you. Asking in advance throug...

When I am staying in Orange County I typically stay either at the Marriott Suites or the Westin South Coast Plaza.

First the good parts - rooms are ample sized, with a separate sitting/TV room (though the shades on the windows in the door don't black out the bedroom, so it one is staying up to work or watch TV, the other gets to share the experience). Location is excellent. One poster said it is a 15-20 minute walk from the shopping mall. Maybe with a walker. It's about 4 blocks. Figure 5 minutes unless you are infirm. Property is quite attractive, as well, with a nice pool and pond in the center.

Gym is small but adequate. No opinion on food, since there is so much excellent food within a short drive.

On the down side, the price of the hotel has increased significantly since it opened. When it first opened, it was half the price of the Westin. Now they are neck-and-neck, so check rates first. Air conditioning has historically been reliable and sufficient (we like the room cold to sleep), but this trip it was barely adequate, only getting the room to about 70 degrees. $21 parking for a garage with no security and no elevator seems a bit steep.

Overall, though, we like the hotel.

Room Tip: If you want it cool in the room, pick one that doesn't face south/west, where the afternoon sun...

I love marriott and stay at them all over however this one did not give me a relaxing stay. I failed to read the review about the parking garage and they charge extra to use it WITHOUT any ELEVATOR so up and down numerous flights of stairs!?? Most include breakfast and free internet also now, but i guess because this isn't a "courtyard"? Plus only 1 of the 2 elevators was working!! And no one supervises the oodles of kids that were jumping into the pool AND the jacuzzi which esp at night could be dangerous due to the low lighting. The pool area is lovely tho small pool esp with just 10 kids in it...If you can get it to yourself, then it would be more relaxing.
Also would be helpful to have the OC paper or magazine of things to do since no concierge!

We booked this hotel for a short 2 night stay and were surprised to find (our bad for not checking the website) no valet parking nor evening bell person to help with bags. The parking garage is close by but not very inviting late at night. The front desk did get us a rolling cart so we could at least avoid multiple trips. Not the greatest first impression for a Marriott. However, the next day, when we found ourselves needing to return a Hertz car and make other transport arrangements the daytime front desk staff couldn't have been more helpful. They also were able to easily accommodate some unplanned shipping needs. Both made a stressful day less so. The rooms are very comfortable although somewhat dated. Restaurant breakfast service was quick and courteous. Net/net: if you need a full service hotel with valet/bag handling this isn't the place, but otherwise a good value.

This hotel is centrally located to the theater and shopping area in Costa Mesa. The Theater is only a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Shopping mall is about 15 to 20 minute walk away. It has an excellent fitness center for those needing a fitness center. Nice and clean and well maintained, the fitness center has little bottles of refrigerated water available and refrigerated damp washcloths to wipe away the sweat when you are finished. The pool is very nice with two cabanas for those hot summer afternoons when you want to be outside, but not in the sun. At night there is a fire-pit for those wanting to enjoy the cooler night air. The hotel is located in a little park setting, with nice landscaping and a pond.

The two room suites are big and up to date. The main room has a big desk, nice couch, Flat screen TV, counter area with Refrigerator and coffee maker. The bedroom has a very comfortable king size bed. There was a balcony off the bedroom, to enjoy the cool morning and evening air if so desired.

The only downside to staying here is you pay a lot of money to connect to the internet and the connection is spotty at best.

The staff here is excellent. Front desk people almost always great you as you enter and ask how you are today. When you leave they tell you to have a lovely day or evening. They are very attentive and even have a dispenser of ice water in the lobby, infused with different fruits all day long. Very tasty on a hot summer afternoon.

The bar is off the lobby and the bartender was excellent. Made good suggestions for drinks and dessert the evening we wanted a sweet treat. On a side note, the molten chocolate lava cake was delicious. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet in the morning that is reasonably priced. Nice selection of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, yogurt, hot dishes and the best made to order omelet I have had in a hotel breakfast buffet in a long time.

I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit Costa Mesa again due to it's excellent customer service and location.
