“Another Nice Meal with a Great View”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Staying on Coronado for a week with my family of 4, including 2 children ages 7 & 10, we found Il Fornaio quite enjoyable.

Situated at the Ferry Landing with views across the bay to downtown San Diego, they offer a few seats outdoors or sit inside with the big windows and watch the ships, naval planes and helicoptors go by. There's also a pedestrian path that follows the shore.

The staff are very friendly; we had an Italian waiter from Sicilia who took wonderful care of us. The food was good, hot, and timely. I ordered the salmone with spinaci; my wife had a kale salad which she loved, and is now making at home, the kids had pasta and pizza and, of course, Il Fornaio's bread. Add a glass of house Chianti.

For Coronado, it's moderately priced. After lunch, we rode the ferry to visit the Maritime museum, walk to Seaport Village, buy some fresh cookies, take a tour on the Seal- which goes on land and sea, and finish with a bike ride along the Coronado path. A terricfic meal and day.

“The vista gets the 4 stars”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013 via mobile

Located in Coronado and across the bay from San Diego's waterfront the vista is impressive and it is worth extra wait time to be near the window. There is an outdoor patio that I am sure in warmer months would be highly enjoyable. The restaurant is located within a "seaport village" type area that provide the touristy/vacation feel in a more relaxed manner than downtown San Diego.

The taste of the food was okay but the carpaccio is a definite hit. The two entrees we tried was the veal and braised short ribs. The veal fell short of our expectation and the ribs were fork tender but did not quite hit the mark. We had the trio of desert sampler and by far the best item was the tiramisu, next time that will be my after dinner selection.

We will definitely return at a future date to enjoy again.

“Breath-taking view of San Diego skyline”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

I just love this restaurant. Every time we have some out of town visitors, we make sure to book a table at il fornaio Coronado. The restaurant is stunning very spacious and peaceful, the downtown view is just lovely, food is just perfect, service is very good and prices are fair. You can't go wrong with il fornaio. Happy hours are great as well $5/pizza. Parking is easy. Best is for lunch to enjoy the skyline and the boats sailing by. Multo bene.

“Greta service-great food-fantastic view of SD skyline”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

The service was excellent. We had drinks at the bar and then ordered champagne to be delivered to the table as a surprise. John, the bartender, handled everything in a quiet and efficient manner. The food was excellent. The restaurant is known for its special risottos. They did not disappoint.
The view of the San Diego skyline is wonderful. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants.
